DIY disassembly of Z series (mechanical slide repair)

Although the sticky post is VERY informative on taking apart the AVIC Z series, all the pictures are broken and overall just years old.

Today I got bored and decided to try my luck and take apart the unit so that I can fix the plastic gear slide. It really only took about an hour to disassemble and that is ONLY because I striped 2 screws and had to dremmel them off.

 

TOOLS NEEDED

 

screwdriver bit kit, must contain the really tiny Phillips, Flathead and torx bits.

Dremel; ONLY if you're like me and stripped the screw heads.

Take your time flipping the locking tabs on the ribbons, they are in akward areas but very simple to do.

I have added the pictures to match each step.
