AVH-4200NEX "No Paired Phones Found"

Recommended Posts

Latest 1.05 firmware

iPhone 7 Plus iOS 10.3.1

Bluetooth paired. Headunit powers on. Bluetooth music plays. I see the artist and song data on the headunit. Maybe 20 seconds later a pop up saying "No paired phones found" appears for 5-10 seconds and then disappears. Bluetooth phone calls work fine too.

Any ideas on that?

Only 1 week old. Could get crutchfield to replace but not sure it's truly defective unit or what.

Here's a pic of the error.

What I just did tonight at like 11pm pacific, is re-applied v1.05 -> v1.05 firmware.  Then did a factory reset of all options.  Then i deleted AVH-4200NEX from my iPhone bluetooth.  I then paired it on the headunit and it seemed OK.  I powered everything off for 15 seconds, powered it on and let it connect.  no error screen.

I'll test again tomorrow morning.

:EDIT for 4/17 9am:

Same issue this morning.  I tried my iPad Mini connected to it.  Same issue with that too.

I called Pioneer (second time on this issue) and got a new tech.  He shared the same thoughts as the 1st tech and said this is not normal, a replacement is best.  I called Crutchfield.  ANother on the way...

I am working with ADS (iDataLink Maestro people) on this.

The root cause is that no phone is paired to Ford SYNC (duh) and even though one is paired to Pioneer AVH-4200NEX and the Maestro has SYNC fully disabled, it is still displaying that data on the headunit.  Is it 100% erroneous? YES.  Can you ignore it and be fine? YES.  Is it annoying to me?  YES!

FYI I pushed ADS to engage the engineer who wrote the firmware.

He said that no matter what they do, they will always dispaly the "No Paired Phones Found" dialog when Bluetooth is activated on the headunit IF no phones are paired to SYNC (doesnt matter about the internal Pioneer headunit having any or not).

The only two choices are

1. Leave a cheapo piece of crap phone in your glove box hooked up to a constant USB charger that is paired to SYNC.  No service needed,

 etc.  iPod, whatever...

2. Disconnect the SYNC module

I chose #2.  It's quick/easy to disconnect and reconnect.  Open the passenger door, pry that little panel off where the vent is, so you can see the "A" pillar.  You'll see the SYNC module right in front of your face there.  It's got a large black connector with the gray switch bar on it (like the one behind the dash for the HVAC stuff).  You push the center of it down, there is a black push button, then pull the gray bar over.

You may find it easier to open the right side and the left side by simply pulling back the cover where the fuse box is in the kick panel.

Then you can see clearly through and use one hand per side.

It takes 5 minutes.  No more pop-ups.  No more SYNC.  Re-connect later if you want...

Did you try to put the factory stereo back in, disable the bluetooth, then reinstall the pioneer.  I am having the same issue and wondered about this as an option.

I pulled the fuse for sync which also causes me to loose the USB.  Did you also loose the USB by disconnecting the module?

FYI , I reinstalled ford stereo, disabled the bluetooth.  Reinstalled pioneer.    Haven't seen that message yet.  Will update if it reappears.

Great idea. I didn’t try that but I don’t need the USB port. I may actually give it a try next time I have the stereo out in a few weeks. I have to remove the entire dash to replace a blend motor.

I’m having the issue and am getting annoyed by it as well.  If I pull the fuse I loose some steering wheel controls.  Don’t care about the USB with wireless CarPlay but want steering wheel controls still. I’m using a Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX and the Maestro RR setup.   I’ve tuned off anything to do with Sync (Bluetooth and Media) while flashing the Marstro RR so don’t know what’s wrong.

Does anyone know if disconnecting the model affects steering wheel controls?

I sold my factory radio and control panel a long time ago.  If I bought one on eBay could I just plug the control panel in to turn off Bluetooth or do I need the whole radio too?
