25yr.InstallVeteran
I just purchased a vehicle with a NEX unit and of course I don't know the password and I'm not very tech-savvy and don't have a computer. Is anyone willing to upload this information on a thumb drive for me that I can purchase from them?

Venkat
Thank you for this file download. It worked as you had stated and my unit is back to its factory defaults and no password. I had bought the car with this unit, but when I needed to change the battery, I was no longer able to use the unit, and the Pioneer service wanted me to send the unit to Syracuse at my cost and charge me $ 56 for a reset. KerryQ
So has anyone gotten this to work on a 4400NEX? Had some service done at the dealer and now I get the password screen when I power up the unit. Tried the password I set, 0000 and 1234 with no luck. I've tried several ways and nothing works. - first the link at the beginning of this thread is no longer valid so I downloaded the rar file - Extracted the rar file and copied the 6 files to a 4gb usb formatted with fat32. plugged that into usb port 1, powered up the unit but it does not boot from the usb. Still get the pw screen. Tried several usb drives of different brands and sizes with no luck. - found another thread that offered another zip file solution but that did not work either. It did however actually boot from the usb drive but then gave me an error that said "failed starting". But at least I know I can boot from usb1. -So I'm at a loss. I'm going to do a full reformat of my usb drive (did quick formats before) and try again. If that fails would anyone be willing to email me the files that were referenced here: https://jenkins.adamoutler.com/job/Customize%20BSP/build?delay=0sec or point me to where I can get them? That's exactly what happened to us after installing a unit that my best friend inherited from a deceased friend. Unfortunately, she's passed and the hint that she gave wasn't good enough for my friend to guess. Now what, I said!!! Some hits seemed to suggest that one needs to bring the unit to Pioneer Service. Even the manual suggests doing so. First, I tried hitting the "reset button" located along the front face plate, towards the bottom right. This didn't work. This would have been too easy, and even the manual states that it doesn't clear everything. Then I stumbled upon the concept of putting the unit into Factory Service Mode. One can actually retrieve the password, by first putting the unit into factory service mode and then by reading an actual ASCII text password file. After not being able to navigate to the specific directory that contains the password file, as I couldn't find a "usr" folder, I noticed and tried successfully by performing a factory reset instead. First, go here and build a set of boot files required to put your unit into factory service mode: https://jenkins.adamoutler.com/job/Customize%20BSP/build?delay=0sec Keep everything defaulted except for the following two settings: launchMode=TestMode testSubMode=Serv Mode. Your corresponding readme.txt file should look like the following: Your SDCard Password is LKPFeD4BcVzESR2Y The password was set to LKPFeD4BcVzESR2Y set Boot Mode ullaunchmode to 0 (Default:Normal) at 4 set Launch Mode ullaunchmode to 1 (TestMode.apk) at 8 set Test SubMode to 1 (Serv Mode) at 12 set Boot Image Side Flag ulbootimageflag to 0 (Default:Side A) at 16 set Recovery Image Flag ulrecoveryimageflag to 0 (Default:Side A) at 20 set Debug Switch uldebugswitch to 0 (Default:Disabled) at 24 set USB OTG Switch ulusbotgswitch to 0 (Default:Host Mode) at 28 set Mem Check Flag ulmemchkflag to 0 (Default:no) at 32 set Sub Boot Mode sbspinfo.ulupdatesubflag to 0 (Default:Side A) at 36 set WARP!! sbspinfo.ulupdatesubflag to 2 (Default:Enable Warp) at 40 set Update Flag sbspinfo.ulupdateflag to 0 (Default:Recovery-Update) at 44 set Update Sub Flag to 0 (Default:SD Card) at 48 set UI Update Flag to 0 (Default:non-updating) at 68 CRC32 applied to warp Disabled image. CRC32 applied to warp Enabled image. CRC32 applied. Plug a thumb drive into your computer. I removed all of the files that were already on it, but I'm not sure if this was completely necessary or not. Save all of the files that you just generated onto the thumb drive, by hitting on each file, one at a time. The files that do not open with a "save' dialog window, do not need to be saved, ex. readme.txt, SD*.txt. If you can't find the page above, or don't want to build your own set of files, here's a rar compressed set that I had generated and used successfully for my password inhibited unit. I would imagine that these should work for most Pioneer AVH DVD units. Please feel free to grab them from the following dropbox rar file, also attached to this forum. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0xp6roa4xnq0zr2/PioneerAVH4000FactoryService.rar?dl=0 if you do grab my rar compressed file, please make sure that you extract the individual files before copying them over to your thumb drive. The port that you need to plug the thumb drive into is "port 1". On my unit, AVH-4000NEX, port 1 is the top rear port. Power up the unit. You should first see the password page, then after a little more time, the Factory Service Menu. Scroll down, select and execute "factory reset". Voila, "Factory Fresh Unit"!!! No more password, but actually, we ended up setting a new password along with a new password hint as well. But keep in mind, this is a total factory reset, like the type that first prompts you for your language, etc. I hope that this help you save the time and effort that I went through and/or throwing out $$$ to pay some greedy person on Ebay, most likely for exactly the same procedure that I've described in this post. If this works for you, please respond to this topic, as I would love to know that I've helped others out with the same issue and have saved you both time and money. -Mark PioneerAVH4000FactoryService.rar This isn't working on AVH-440NEX, is there something missing from the RAR file is it because My radio is still in the dash. The question is do I need to plug the flash drive directly into the radio?
TheWurtzPerson
Hello, I downloaded the dropbox file and was able to put it in my thumb drive. I have a Pioneer Avic-5200nex. I plugged it in and tried to go to factory default and initialize it. I kept getting an error screen that contains the photo attached. I tried activating and inactivating my Bluetooth and it still gives me this. I have no idea what it means by "please turn the power off to test Bluetooth." I don't have anything connected to Bluetooth and not sure how I can turn off the power without that screen turning off as well. I am stuck and not sure what to do. TackyShark419
I am not able to get to my OEM settings, its greyed out. My options are to reset the head unit which doesn't do anything and press the little rest button which does the same thing. I downloaded the .rar file and unzipped it, put it on a thumb drive and nothing. Please help.

I couldn't type in my password because is has a symbol in it and the sensor on the screen wouldn't let me go to it, when I pressed anywhere along the bottom it would only select whatever keys are above. With this usb I did a factory reset. I downloaded your rar file, extracted it and saved on a formatted usb drive. I had to do a full format, the quick method didn't work at first. I also used a 16gb usb drive. Thanks a lot! hey @dimochka123, what did you do to get to the password screen? I still cannot get that to come up on mine.

Aleem Boodram
Thank you OP. Almost 5 years later. Lol. Your .rar file was still available and worked like a charm. Used a 16GB flash drive and had no problems. I've learned my lesson and now i have the password in the password vault on my phone. Thanks again.
