@RonS - ever done one of these with a bad SD reader? Like through the usb port? I have an x920 that I am trying to update the maps on for a friend.. Wont read any SD cards.. I have tried all dif brands.. Boots from USB find but I do not know how to force this update through usb? Any ideas?

Sorry, never tried it. If it boots from USB (do you mean into testmode?) seems like you could try copying the upgrade files into the root of and empty memory stick.

There's also the possibility of using Force Program Write in Testmode. I think you can specify the source device as USB.

Not sure if it's been brought up, but it likely isn't the Brand of SD card, but the capacity.  Most of the older units discussed in this forum have a hard time with anything over the size of 16GB and they seem pretty picky about the formatting.  FAT16 or FAT32 only.

Hello all, new to the forum. I stumbled along this thread when looking for UI mods instead I did the map update which is better than UI mods. I successfully updated my x930bt using the shortfuse and 2017 map dl.

As for the memory card I used a 2gig micro SD8gig off brand micro SDHC. I think the later models pioneer Navi will not except any micro SDXC. I could be wrong.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this possible.

Hello everyone just did the update and all went well did the script on my Z110 then ran the map update now I am v7. only thing is that I have no gps and I am sure that comes from not having a factory gps antenna. I ordered one from amazon and it should be coming in Sat.. Oh I already upgraded my BT to v3.2 from yesterday when I loaded the 2013 maps. Just stumbled on this site.

P.S. the OP contribute link still works so I sent him a token wasn't much but I wanted to show him some love for sharing.

Thought I'd post the Installation/operation manuals and info on the two 2017 updates (v7.0 firmware). I recommend that everyone review them before installing. Also note the specific instructions for upgrading BT from older( < 3.10) versions to v3.32. And as before, it doesn't seem possible to add iPhone Lightning connector support(patches 4.6 or 5.1) after the fact. It must be installed before installing firmware 6.0 and higher. IDK if there is a workaround.

Only Compatible With:

  • AVIC-Z110BT, AVIC-Z120BT, AVIC-X920BT         CDR5009A.pdf
  • AVIC-Z130BT, AVIC-X930BT, AVIC-X9310BT, AVIC-Z140BH, AVIC-X940BT    CRD5006A.pdf

As with other updates, either product can be made to install on any of the above units when used with the proper CARDINFO file.  See post #26 for the update files and see Shortfuse Hack for how to hack you unit prior to installing those files.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but the links to the manuals aren’t working.

Will this $120 update from navigation.com not just do maps but also firmware and BT? Will this latest BT update allow my iPhone X to work

I am trying to update my Z110bt which I have neglected for a few years

The links I provided work. But those on Navigation.com are broken. Each release includes maps and firmware. I suggest you check the manual for specifics on support for iPhone and iTouch devices.

If you are still running on the original Z110 firmware (IIRC it was v 1.xxx), you might have serious issues installing the 2017 update version posted in this thread (for Z130 & Z140). Some people with original Z110 firmware had odd problems related to the tuner. I suspect it is caused by drivers for a different traffic tuner that is no longer supported.  I suggest that you install firmware specifically released for the Z110/Z120 to ensure you get the updated traffic tuner drivers (even if you don't use the new traffic tuner).

Thanks Ron, your links now work. I think the site must have been having an issue.

I know I installed the paid update that pioneer had I think 2011 maps? Do you think I would be ok then since I have already made 1 update?

I don’t see anything in the manual about what iPhones would be supported now but I guess it’s worth a shot

I think that will do it. I don't remember when they switched support for traffic tuners. I think it was in the first update after 2010.

RonS  you are simply amazing!  I just read this thread and I am so impressed by your patience, gracious helpfulness and ability to understand, troubleshoot and diagnose problems—and your responsiveness is incredible!   Thank you so much!

I'm on a trip out of state (and I flew) and my car is at home, so I don't even have the option to try any of this out until I get back.  But this seemed like a good time familiarize myself with the process and the potential pitfalls...

I'm somewhat shocked by the number of people who do not carefully review the process making sure to actually understand all the steps and everything, especially on such costly "toys"!  I suppose I shouldn't be so surprised.

I've read at least half a dozen other threads on this site in the past and your presence, attitude & activity have been very stable and predictable.
