  1. WD Passport 2TB works fine. I've been using mine for a couple months for movies and music, the only issue I've noticed is...if I plug the hard drive in while the stereo is already on, it will say the drive is incompatible. Simple solution...turn the key off, open the door, plug in the hard drive, works flawlessly. I normally leave the hd plugged in all the time, so I never have the issue I mentioned, it's just something I noticed when I first got everything and was testing it all out. I've never had any lack of power issues and it's never missed a beat on rough dirt roads.
  2. I installed the PAC WRI-P on my 8000NEX. It allows you to have basic functions using a Pioneer "card style" wireless remote (cdr-510 I think). You get volume control, mute, next track, previous track (or radio station), each press of the source button cycles to the next available source. I think the function button also does something but I can't remember off the top of my head. It would be nice to be able to do a lot more with the remote but it's better then nothing.
  3. If you want the songs to be in the right order in "music browse" you could retag the titles on all your music and put the track number as a prefix to each song, if you go that route make sure to put a zero before all the single digit numbers. Not the easiest solution and there may be another way but I'm pretty sure that would accomplish what you want. Just to clarify, renaming the actual file won't work, it has the be the "title" or "song" tag
  4. Playable file types (USB\SD) MP3, WMA, AAC, WAVE, FLAC, H.264, MPEG4, WMV, FLV, MKV The manual also says that Divx files won't play via USB\SD
  5. My only experience is with the 8000 and I've only had it for a week or so, but here's what I know so far...As far as indexing, you can switch on the fly between tags (artist, album, genre, title) and files (folder\filename). With "tags" selected, when a song is playing you can click on any of the fields in the media player and it will open that particular directory to browse (artist, album, song, genre). If you choose "files, when a song is playing you have to click on the list icon to browse for other music. Clicking on the artist name or album in the media player becomes non functional.
  6. It sounds like you have a lot of knowledge about these things and I don't have a clue so everything you're saying is goin right over my head lol. I get the jist of it but for now it seems to be working and I'm happy. If I start to have problems, then maybe I'll try to educate myself a little better to understand what you're getting at. TBH I was a little disappointed with Pioneer that ALAC wasn't supported, then I got to thinking of why I had to save all my music to ALAC in the first place, because of Apple's proprietariness and the fact that I coudn't put FLAC on my IPod. If I can get thi
  7. Ok, so i figured out that ALAC doesn't play, I thought I tried it out the first time but I guess I didn't. I was already expecting that though since it wasn't mentioned as a supported format in the manual. I did get the videos to work just fine, I only tried a few and didn't pay attention to what format they were but there was a mixture of mkv and avi including 720p and 1080p. I didn't check to see if any over 4gb would play, probably not but I'll check later. @tickerguy The hd I have is USB 3.0 with 2.0 compatibility. It's got the firewire plug on the device end and a usb plug on the
  8. I believe the 6000 (six not eight) also has a detatchable panel on it. The screen itself isn't detatchable, just the plate to the left of the screen with the buttons on it. Just to confirm though, the 8000 is not detatchable at all and I'm pretty sure the 7000 isn't either.
  9. Thanks for the info, the HU is new to me so maybe I just need to learn how to get to the video on the USB. If I have any problems with the HD then I'll try out an SSD. I know the passport is rugged enough to handle being in a vehicle but I'll have to see how the power supply works out. Initial testing was just a few minutes connected solely to the HU via USB and it worked fine. I'll play around with a few different video files to see what I can get to play.
  10. I just installed all my stuff the past couple days and had the sub hooked up to the rear output rcas at first and everything worked. Then I found the dedicated sub output rca jacks and swapped over.
  11. I just purchased a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB external hard drive to use with my 8000NEX. I started out by putting a few albums on it to test it out, plugged it up and the HU said incompatible USB. Next I reformatted the drive which erased all the factory junk that was on it, I kept it NTSF though, put the albums back on there and it seems to be working now. I put 1 album each of ALAC, FLAC, WAV, and MP3 and they all played. I also put 2 videos on there, 1 MKV and 1 AVI but neither of them showed up. I read another post where someone mentioned that you can't use the same USB device for vide
  12. I've got an 8000NEX running a sub with the rear speakers hooked up. I think the issue is if you hook the sub directly to the head unit via speaker wires rather than running it through an amp via rcas. I could be wrong but thats what makes sense to me.
  13. Nope, no remote with mine and there doesn't appear to be an IR sensor on it. I just purchased mine a few days ago, how long ago did you get yours? NVM, I see that you have the 4000 and it does come with a remote. I don't know why Pioneer does't incorporate a basic remote with some of their units.
  14. My vehicle doesn't have steering wheel controls so I would like to add a wireless remote. I found a PAC module (WRI-P) and just wanted to know if anyone has used this sucessfully with the NEX series.
