  1. Surely someone has to have an answer to this. It's not stolen; I still have the original shipping emails/receipts and box from when I bought it.
  2. My Volkswagen got totaled out a month or so ago, and I had taken the faceplate off of my 4000 NEX before it was towed, because I didn't know whether or not they would total it at the time. The car is long gone now, probably to a scrap yard, but I still have the faceplate. Is it of any sort of use to anyone at this point? Would it work for anyone else if I turned around and sold it, or are they matched to that specific unit and it's total junk at this point? Thanks Edit: added model
  3. No, but the lack of support for future updates, spotty Bluetooth, poor system UI, etc certainly are.
  4. Couldn't agree more. I was very excited for the promise of CarPlay, and in the end the only feature that I actually use that wasn't in my factory radio is the HD Radio. I don't use CarPlay anymore in the least bit. It was a colossal disappointment. Never again, Pioneer.
  5. iOS 8.3 is introducing wireless CarPlay. I'm hoping the 4000NEX will allow for that.
  6. The 4000NEX also lacks a dedicated GPS antenna. Granted, you can buy one aftermarket for around $300, but that puts it way above the original pricepoint of the Alpine unit.
  7. I don't think this is what you're thinking of. Based on the diagrams in the manual, it looks like the plastic trim around the unit is removable, not the actual screen itself. Not much in the way of a theft deterrent.
  8. No HDMI input, only one USB input port on the back. Can't tell if the faceplate is removable or not, but at $800 MSRP (only $50 more than MSRP on the 4000NEX) I've already listed two big things that my Pioneer 4000NEX can do that this Alpine unit can't, and another that looks doubtful. I had high hopes for the Alpine unit, especially given how underwhelmed I was with Pioneer's implementation (I've completely turned CarPlay off). Unfortunately, it looks like I'll continue to be left wishing.

  10. Would you mind uploading the update to Dropbox?
  11. If anyone could mirror the 4000 update somewhere else, that would be awesome! Thanks in advance!
  12. Six minute demo video of the unit in action at IFA 2014 in Germany. http://www.imore.com/hands-apple-carplay-pioneer-same-great-experience-your-current-vehicle
  13. I'll be replacing my 7000 with a 4000, if only for the peace of mind that comes with the removable faceplate. I'm still debating on the U260 unit.
  14. Thanks for setting me straight; I knew the 5000 didn't have HDMI, so I assumed the 4000 did not as well.
  15. The 4000 doesn't have an HDMI port.
