yea the whole overnight thing being the only time it happened was throwing me off as to a short but that makes good sense. ill pull it back out and double check everything and let you know what/if I find anything. thanks for the response

unit works flawlessly except for first thing in the morning at start up and it doesn't boot up. just black screen and no lights. the splash screen will eventually come on and radio will start working. usually anywhere from 5 min and never longer than 15 or 20 min and will work fine the rest of the day (powering off and on) until the next morning and it will do it again. not sure if it matters but the low temps have been in the mid 20s at night. vehicle is a 2006 ram 2500 and the correct interface was used. thanks for any help
