  1. What issues does this firmware address? Why is it worth updating?
  2. Check to make sure your smartphone settings are on USB2, it might have defaulted to USB1 after they repaired your unit.
  3. This should probably go without say but... don't cheap out on the USB cords. I did and had to take the dash apart multiple times to diagnose and fix the issues. Spend the $$ and get the good stuff and make sure EVERYTHING works and is hooked up right before you put the dash together again.
  4. So it turns out my "heat effect" was just a bad USB cable. I had tried two cables and had the same issue, I figured it must be the head unit but I was wrong! It was just two bad cables. Unlikely but that's how it happened. The problem with the USB cables is that it's a crap-shoot. They are all cheap factory direct stuff from China, you have no idea what you're getting and there's no store to back up the purchase. I haven't found a dashboard USB plug to date that is sold under a respectable brand, so you'll just have to take your chances. But the unit itself should work OK...
  5. Can't you just ask for directions through Siri?
  6. If you wire it up to the reverse lights like most installs, then it will be actually impossible to see anything unless you're in reverse gear. If you want to have it on-demand you'll need to wire it to a 12V source from the battery. BUT be careful because a lot of these cheaper cameras are not designed for continuous operation and will overheat after a few minutes.
  7. Tekki, unfortunately this doesn't work, and even if it did it would not be an acceptable solution. OEM radios do not have this issue, they simply work. I keep my car in a closed garage. If the ambient temp is ~75F or higher (according to my OEM thermometer) then the USB plugs simply will not work until the dashboard has been cooled down, agonizingly slowly, by the AC ducts.
  8. This website will tell you what adapters you need: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1308200NEX/Pioneer-AVIC-8200NEX.html?search=8200nex&skipvs=T
  9. It's not completely Pioneer's fault - this is smartphones we are talking about. Especially back in 2014, it seems like every six months the smartphone world was being flipped upsidedown by a new device and more standards and features. Take into account that these head units have been in planning and prototype for a long time, maybe several years before they hit the market. And don't forget the aftermarket for head units is suffering in general thanks to the philosophy of car makers these days. Pioneer knows their days in this market are numbered, they're squeezing what they can while they can.
  10. Any old cheap camera will do, in my opinion. This is the one I purchased from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T2GX37A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    power off

Is your screen removable? That should turn off the unit, it does on the 4100.
  12. Maybe you pressed the "mode" button by accident? Is it off all the time now or does it come back on if you leave the vehicle and restart it?
  13. Nothing really, I don't see the point. I got my unit for Android Auto, all the other stuff is just bonus. But I did once considering putting a Chromecast on it for Netflix/YouTube...
  14. Yes, I have the same issue! 2004 Chevy Malibu. I only just figured out that it was a heat issue, at first I thought the USB cable had gone bad and I actually replaced it completely, but it didn't clear up the issue. Then I had the brainwave to check the temps. I pulled down the screen and felt the unit with my hands, just the front of it was extremely hot! This is mostly an issue when the car sits in the sun for long and the dash heats up to 80-90F. I live up north so I imagine people in the south have it even worse. The radio and the bluetooth options are fine, it's just the USB connectio
