  1. bump. yeah, can it be done with the circuit tracer pen??
  2. you guys might be able to fix your problem by "force flashing" the head unit. There are instructions on how to do it somewhere around here. Essentially , this lets you upgrade to version 60 and if you dont like it or have trouble bypassing it...., you can then go ahead and force flash the deck with an older version. THis gets rid of the upgrade and lets you use whatever disc you want.
  3. I think you in fact have an N1 not an N3. If you do , then you have struck gold because that is the one that is foolproof in bypassing. I believe all you need to do is ground that green parking brake wire. ( connect it to a piece of metal in the car permanently). good luck
  4. no , no, no, Not for me. For my passengers of course. I would never want to break the law
  5. Does this work? I currently have a N2 head with the N1 brain and I thought that the version was stored in the brain till I found out otherwise. Now I have a N2 that I cant get to watch video in motion and want to find a n1 or n3 to go with it.
  6. Can you hook up an external video source to the S1 screen?
  7. What does this VSS wire do? yes , I know vehicle speed sensor. But what does it do for the deck?
  8. Maybe the ipod display might be better on n2, but I am not certain. The n1 has the foolproof bypass which would make for a better resale value if you decide to sell it one day. THe n2 on the other hand will probably have a longer screen life.
  9. I had the same prob when modding my avic n2. I used a circuit pen and got too much of it on the contact points and then it wouldnt power up. I just scraped it off and it worked again, I had to go back and forth to get the connection right. I am sure that if you can get the solder off, it will work again. You didn't fry the board, dont worry. Just get that solder off and you will be fine. Use a circuit pen after you get the solder off. it is really no big deal. update: wait a sec. I just saw that you tried soldering an N1. I thought that there was no need to solder an N1.
  10. I have seen this auction before. I have a video ipod that I use with my avic. The cable goes into the headphone jack and has rca's on the other end and it plays the video thru the headphone jack which is pretty cool. This guy claims that his cable will charge the ipod , but I dont see how. It has no power cord. The cord I got was cheap, you can get it at radio shack under 20 bucks.
  11. you dont need to do anything on an N1 head unit.
  12. thanks for the advice guys. - well I was driving around and messing with the parking brake wire to see if I could get video to play. When I was cruisin around at like 40mph, I would touch the wire to a ground and I would get video for 4 seconds then it would get the pop up "no video while drivin". So tell me, Would some type of relay work to play video? did I connect the r197 correctly and now just need some sophisticated switch? or is this just what it does until you connect the 197 points? thanks for the help.
  13. so I did the circuit pen thing and it did nothing. My unit works like its supposed to just without the bypass. I bought my unit used and when I took off the silver sticker the spot that you are supposed to solder looked messed up, it looks like someone had tried to solder it once before and ended up scraping off the solder and breaking off the two contacts. So I used the circuit pen on it anyway to see if it would work. it didn't and now I am unhappy. Has anyone heard of the contacts breaking or just being messed up?? Maybe the contacts are just flush with the board. THe only thing I
  14. yup, the circuit tracer pen sounds like a no brainer. So, just to cover my thoughts, Say you do mess up with the circuit pen....can the ink be cleaned off with say alcohol on a q-tip or something?
