  1. Hi all, I am one of the Porsche guys! LOL!!!!! Back in May 2008 I ordered one F900 to install in my P-car. I got tired of waiting for it and scared of receiving it, after I read this site. Soooooo.... I got me a MAX983HD. Guess waht? Installed it in August 2008 and it has been working flawless since then. Only bug noted so far: an occasional reboot when of the first start of the day (it has happened maybe 4-5 times). And that's it. All the rest just works as described in the adverts and in the manual, as simple as that. That's probably the reason why there is no user run forum for Clar
  2. Correct. You would need to install: http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2 ... 77897.html and http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2 ... 78067.html to get similar functionality, minus the hard drive (for music, navigation is still HD based) and added by USB interface. It is not to be forgotten that Clarion owned McIntosh from 1990 until 2003 and profited a lot from their technology, meaning sound quality is actually very good indeed, and quite an improvement over the original head unit I had.
  3. A few, of course, but not dealbreakers, far from it. - The screen could be a tad brighter, but it is adjustable up to a 30º slope, since the screen is motorised. - There's a hiss you can hear when playing files from the hard drive at very low volumes, although with the car in motion or the volume at normal playing levels it's not noticeable - The principle of having a hard drive instead of an USB interface has its disadvantages but also advantages. And it holds 500 albums! - No line level outputs or digital out, which may prevent the use of some amplifiers/processors. Not in m
  4. I think it sounds very good, it may actually become a nice workaround for the slow boot. BTW the MAX983HD does have voice recognition, only not for Portuguese, Swedish and Danish...
  7. Olá, I was considering and even had a F900BT on order, but after joinig this forum I gave up and ordered a Clarion MAX983HD. Yes, it's quite a bit more expensive, but you know what? It just works! Like advertised! And, guess what? You will have music 5 seconds after turning the key and full control after 10 or so (they force you to read the disclaimer first...) Check it out if you can. You can see pictures of my install in: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16635 Luis
  8. Hi all, Just a few notes regarding my install, in case anybody wants to do a similar thing: 1 - The OEM nav system (PCM1 16bit) has the same antenna plug/socket as the Clarion, meaning this was a direct plug and play deal. Saved me a load of work; 2 - The OEM in-dash microphone may be used with the Clarion, but the factory gain setting must be lowered. To do that, pry the microphone cover out, and on the right side of the speaker housing you will find a little hole with a screw just visible inside. There's a label on top, with 3 positions. Factory setting is 3, reduce it to 2. Thi
  9. Skoos, in Europe you don't get Sirius, XM or MSN, that's all US only. Tired of waiting and scared of all the bugs I eneded up buying a Clarion MAX983HD (not available in the US). Works perfectly and as advertised! BTW, it starts up in.... 5 seconds! And I mean full functionality.
  10. Just installed one in my car last Friday, after cancelling the F900BT order. Only three days experience of using, but so far so excellent. Starts almost imediately upon turning the key, menus are extremely fast and navigation calculation is virtually instantaneous. The database is very accurate, at least in my area. Can't test TMC, since it is not available in Portugal. I have also installed the BLT583 Bluetooth interface box and the CA692 iPod interface cable. Unfortunately my Nokia E61 has very limited Bluetooth capabilities, so I'm not able to test all its functions. Basic (maki
  11. I'm one of the quitters too. Cancelled my order and went for a Clarion MAX983HD. I could have waited if only they would commit with adate and a list of fixes included.
  12. Oh well, I loath uncertainty so I just called it quits... Just changed my order for Clarion stuff: MAX983HD system; BLT583 bluetooth unit CCA692 iPod cable. These are not available in the US. It's a sort of a combination of a MAX685BT and a NAX980HD all in one. I'll report on it when it gets here, maybe in the "Other nav..." topic. Thanks for all the decision making information, people! Luis
  13. Bad news. F900BT delayed again for mid July, no specific date given...
  14. I've been waiting for my F900BT (there's no F90BT version in Europe) for quite sometime now, since the release was delayed in Europe. Aparently, some units originaly made it to the UK at least, until delivery was suspended: my German dealer was supposed to get me one on 18/06 but Pioneer delayed delivery until today, 30/06. My dealer just emailed saying they are expecting to receive the F900Bts today or tomorrow, confirmed. I wonder if these are already updated? I have made up my mind now, that if my F900BT comes bug laden, I'll return it for a Clarion MAX983HD; much more expen
  15. Man... this is getting on my nerves, don't really know what to do. My order of a F900BT has been delayed until 30/06, at least. Besides the apparent incapability of delivering, the long boot time bothers me a lot. I keep getting in and out of the car all day long, and if everytime I have to wait for 1.5 min, I'll soon get aggravated. Also, I'm a little wary of the idea that new firmware will reduce those boot times... If a computer takes a long time to do soemthing, that's usually because it cannot cope with the load. Reading all this, I'm clearly considering other options, all of them mor
