1. I have this problem too, but it's only if I have the wifi enabled like the above poster said. Disabling it will solve your problem.
2. Completely wild guess, but perhaps it's too cold? What hard drive is it? I'm wondering what the operating temp specs are for it.
3.
So, if i follow your method i will be saving the $42 to unlocked the hard drive right? What i mean is, if i buy a new hard drive i don't have to pay the license to unlocked the new hard drive, right? Thank you Zeek
Well it's not my method as I learned it from a handful of posts interspersed amongst threads on this topic here on avic411.com :) This method means you don't have to go through the annoying process of hooking up a new drive as an IDE drive on a desktop pc if you have a laptop laying around. However it might not work on all laptops, as I
4. Do you have the SSL option package? I.e. the subwoofer and amplified speaker system.
5. Thought I'd add what I learned about the process as I have only seen the methods I've mentioned a couple times and not listed in the main faq page. I used the 80gb Toshiba Drive as Newegg was out of 60gb and sent the 80gb instead. To unlock the drive I took out the drive from Dell Latitude D810 laptop and put it in, and used the Magic ISO 2.0 bootable cd with MHDD. Using MHDD I disabled the security features. Once this was accomplished, I used a usb 2.0 2.5" hd enclosure to connect to my desktop pc (which had the z2bypassed iso) and used Acronis True Image to restore the drive. I disa
6. Crap I forgot to take a picture. Hit 1.2g lateral and 1.15g braking while at an HPDE at VIR. Stock EVO 9, stock tires. Brake pads were carbotech xp16 in the front and xp10 in the rear.
7. Hmm, my June 06 unit inverted before the update, and still inverts after it. This is new for you? I assume you mean how the normally white areas become black, in addition to other differences that I can't recall at the moment.
8. Mine just sat there when I inserted my disc. I rebooted my unit and then after bootup prompted me for proceeding with the update. As for Mic Gain, there is no setting in the Z1. You'll need to adjust the bluetooth mic gain on your phone. Whether you can do this from your phone's config menus or with third party software depends on your phone. I have to use third party software and a usb cable to do the adjustment on my SLVR.
9. Just installed the update on my avic-z1 this weekend. After getting back into the unit, my phone volume in the z1 was reset back to the lowest setting, but all other settings were untouched (wasn't thorough in my inspection). I made a phone call to test the unit with the same person I'd been testing wtih since I installed the thing and she noted that I sounded noticeably clearer than before. I made no changes to speaker output (I use both L+R) nor mic placement (on my driver's sun visor). I thought her voice was a bit low so I upped the volume on the z1. Now keep in mind I have my ce
10. The thread isn't for discussing whether or not the bluetooth sucks with the z1. It does, there's no question about it. Pioneer provided a piss poor implementation out of the box. This thread IS for discussing a possible work-around for those that would like to try to have a functional system. While you may just want to complain about the problems, I'd like to try to get things somewhat usable until such time Pioneer provides a solution (which I'm not counting on). So I'd appreciate it if you folks kept such comments to some other thread. ------------------------------------
11. Seems I am an idiot. I posted earlier stating I tried changing my bluetooth headset mic/speaker gains as listed by the op and that I had no success. Well... it had been so long since I had played with my gain tables that I forgot I needed to power cycle the phone for my changes to take effect :? I realized this because I had inadvertently bounced the phone while I was playing with something else a few days ago... and when I was on a phone call in the car afterwards not only could I barely hear anyone but they could barely hear me. I realized the gain setting changes had taken effect.
12.
So, I turned down the volume on the Z1 for the phone “incoming voice”.
Turning it down in the Z1 is the pseudo "fix" we're already aware of. The problem with this is that it makes incoming calls hard to hear. I've found in my car the threshold for echo is at three bars, and anything above the caller can hear echo, more and more as I go above the three bars setting.
13. I tried it using my SLVR the other day. I had to use some software to adjust my headset volumes for bluetooth, turning both the speaker and mic gains for bluetooth to 1. Hopefully this is what was described. It had no effect on the echo, and I tried resetting everything including wiping the hard drive first. I still have to have the phone volume on the Z1 set to three bars to eliminate perceivable echo by the other side. This sucks because at speed I have too much additional noise and the phone volume makes it tough to comprehend the other party's voice.
14. My avic-z1 showed about 1-1.1 the other day when I was taking an off-ramp. I drive a stock 2006 EVO IX MR. I wasn't pushing it completely as the tires hadn't warmed up (I had just left the gym).
15. VSS can be found on pin 80 in the ECU harness. This is on the third harness (furthest right if the push-tabs for the harnesses are pointed up), 2nd row, third pin from the left. Alternatively I read somewhere it can be found on the OBDII wiring harness as a black with yellow or red stripe, but I've not personally verified this. Reverse can be found under the rear seat on either side of the car in wiring bundles running the length of the car. Look to the edge near the doors for the wiring bundles. The reverse line is the brown wire in those bundles. Alternatively you can find this wir
