  1. I don't really care to have it show up on the splash screen I was just curious why it was not there this time. I mounted the HDD image and found the file you were referring to. I gotta admit, I got a warm fuzzy feeling when I saw 2012 TomTom. Thanks garrettoomey!
  2. Installation was flawless using Acronis True Image Home 2011 and Win7 x64. Did anyone notice that the Pioneer splash screen just says Pioneer now and does not include the year of the maps, copyright info, etc.? I'm sure the maps are newer, I guess I was just expecting to see TomTom 2012 on there. No biggie.
  3. I'm downloading now at 188kB/s with two seeders. Utorrent says it should be done in 10 hours. I'll leave it up for a couple weeks but if you're not getting any seeds, my PC might be offline. Just drop me a PM and I'll get a notification on my cell.
  4. garrettoomey, On your service info screen, what are the last four digits of your unit number? I'm just curious as to whether or not everybody who restores the image will end up with the donor's unit number or if it retains it's unique unit number. The reason I ask is because I'm going to be sending my Z1 for repairs soon and I don't know if Pioneer will check to see if the unit number corresponds with the serial number.
  5. First of all I'd like to thank garrettoomey for the upgrade files. I was able to restore both partitions without any issues. I put the drive back into my Z1 and it started back up displaying TeleAtlas 2010 on the copyright screen. The stereo itself works perfect, and the navigation appears to work. Just to try it I mapped to the closest McDonald's and it routed just fine. However, when I go to the "service info" screen, I only see Version 05.0000, my unit number, and CDDB Version: 10-01-0010. From reading garrettoomey's harddrive sales post, it looks like it's supposed to look like this:
  6. What some were doing was creating a DVD by converting their MP3 files into VOB files. By doing this, your AVIC is "fooled" into thinking that it is playing a normal DVD but since the only thing in your VOB files is sound, that is all that will be played. Since the MP3 converted VOB files don't take up much room, you can fit a ton in a DVD but your AVIC will not record them. All it's going to do is play them as it would a normal DVD. Depending on what program you use to do the conversion, you may be able to have a menu in the background that displays Album, Artist, Title, Genre, etc. If yo
  7. did you try resetting the system? Get a pen and poke the little reset button and see if that works for you.
  8. Like inferno999 said, you need to use the right screwdriver. Although he suggested a #1 screwdriver, I found that my Craftsman #0 (part # 41293) is the perfect tool for the job. All I did was turn the drive upside down, laid the drive itself flat on the edge of the counter, and pushed down a bit while loosening. Easy as cake, no damaged screws! Hopefully this helps someone BEFORE they strip their screws.
  9. Never mind, I figured it out. My thanks goes out to inferno999 for putting the Service Manual on his website.
  10. I hooked up my Z1's HDD to my PC so I can upgrade from the Z2 to Z3 software. The HDD was already unlocked from my last upgrade. Anyway, I hooked it up via the IDE to USB2 adapter and external power and the PC recognized the drive but then the drive went silent. I hooked it up to my laptop the same way but it never powered up. I went back to the PC but still nothing. I thought maybe the power supply for the adapter went bad so I decided to put the HDD back in the Z1. When I power up the Z1, I got a "cannot use HDD" error. OK now I'm screwed. Since my wife was taking the car to Californ
  11. Some have suggested that the firmware may keep the fan on for longer periods or maybe a faster speed during startup. Anybody confirm this? I'm thinking it might be that or they may have changed the parameters to the normal operating temperature settings to allow more heat before the shutdown threshold is reached. If this was done, this is more of band-aid than a fix. Either way, hopefully it works in the long run.
  12. Here's a funny short story for you guys. Yesterday I check my e-mail and like many of you, I had the e-mail from Pioneer. I read it and was happy to see that those with the freezing problem would be able to fix the problem. I personally had never experienced the freezing problem but I was nonetheless happy that the fix was available, if I ever needed it. Today, I get in the car after a short trip to the grocery store, and what do you know? I had music playing from the library but I was stuck on the boot screen. Damn Pioneer jinxed me. What sucks is that it's only about 78 degrees outsid
  13. What has changed on the chips? Was it only echo related? When I bought my Z1, I paired it with a Motorola E815. The echo was bad but autoconnect worked flawlessly. The same phone on the 980BT, same echo, no autoconnect. I got a new LG Chocolate and the results were exactly the same as with the E815. Instictively I thought the 980BT was bad because it wouldn't autoconnect so I called Pioneer to get some answers. The guy I spoke with said that the ND-BT1's chip was different from the 980BT and that they know the latter's chip is inferior. When I asked if switching to the new 790BT w
  14. Itchy, Do you have a pic I can see? Mine is currently near the A-pillar but not on it. Mine hangs from the headliner.
  15. The Z1/Z2 does not have that feature but I do have that feature on my Premier DEH-P980BT and there is still quite a bit of echo on it.
