  1. MirrorLink is almost completely unsupported, despite it being a selling point of the head units. An app has to support MirrorLink itself to work, and I've only come across a handful on the store that actually show up on the HU's screen when the phone is in MirrorLink mode. However, just because they show up, doesn't mean they will work 100%. Aupeo's devs told me their target hardware is a HU for a specific VW in Europe and don't guarantee the app to work on other devices in MirrorLink mode, which means behavior like no audio. One app requires you pay for the monthly subscription to unlock Mirr
  2. I'm shocked. SHOCKED I tell ya, that Pioneer has put out an update to address the high res phones. It's only been 7 months too.
  3. I didn't have any problems with AR Unchained at all, but that's about all I can say.

They also haven't put out a fix for the appradio app for most of the phones released since the fall like the note 4 and s5, which is ironic since these phones have actual Mirrorlink support. Oh, and the whole mirrorlink thing is bullshit since an app has to support the feature and there's only 3 on Android that do.
  5. The only reason I am keeping mine is i can use my android media stick with it as and I have a car pc going that route. With the apparent abandonment by Pioneer, I won't be getting anything from them in the future.
  6. Wait! I found another one. Parkopedia, an app to find available parking nearby. However, to use the MirrorLink functions you need to subscribe to their service. I had read that Glypse was also supposed to be MirrorLink enabled, but it doesn't show up as an available app. Here's what the Apps menu looks like with MirrorLink mode.
  7. You only need one of Samsung's MHL adapters to use it with the 8000, but the AppRadio app isn't compatible with it at the moment. You could use AR Unchained, but on my Note 4 the aspect ratio isn't correct when displayed on the 8000's screen.
  8. First, don't listen Pioneer and think you need to buy a special USB cable to get MirrorLink to work. You don't. Second: I finally discovered why MirrorLink wasn't doing anything between the Note 4 and the 8000Nex when I would plug in the Note 4 and the phone would say it's connecting to the head unit via MirrorLink.....there's a whopping 1 app actually supports it...barely, and that app is Aupeo. With Aupeo installed and the 8000Nex set to Other phone and USB, it will activate MirrorLink and when you select the Apps mode on the 8000, Aupeo shows up as an icon without needing to run AppRadi
  9. I've used different launchers and have gotten the same result. If you specifics, please share.
  10. If the Note Edge acts anything like the Note 4, the AppRadio app or the 8000 isn't compatible with it at this time. Running AppRadio on my Note 4, both stock and rooted firmwares, the AppRadio app doesn't recognize the 8000's touchscreen. I've also tried the Note 4 with AR Unchained Reloaded and the screen is squished instead of displayed in the proper aspect ratio, but at least the 8000's touchscreen works with it.
  11. I'm currently using both an Iphone 5 with the AppRadio and EC Radio apps, and a M809III Android stick with a really nice car oriented home launcher. The Android stick gives me full car-puter capabilities of course.
  12. I'm using one of the many mx809iii sticks with AR Unchained Reloaded. There are also a number of car oriented launchers on the store that I've been trying. The stick is up and running in about 2 minutes. I just tether it to my phone and and it works pretty nicely. The only issue is no phone calls, but I'm still looking at options. Hell, there are 100% android car stereos that ive seen recently that look really cool that have good specs and features and they may end up being better buys than continuing to buy units from the big names only to be abandoned at the beginning of the next year.
  13. Bushing has a great overview of the guts of the 5000NEX - https://fail0verflow.com/blog/2014/enhancing-the-avic-5000nex.html . Hopefully his work and maybe some others will lead to firmware mods for the 2014 NEX owners. In the case of the 5000NEX, it's running a dual core 1Ghz Cortex, which is most likely the same thing the entire NEX line is running, possibly give or take a couple hundred Mhz depending on the particular unit's price. Cheap, no-name android devices like $99 tablets and $50 android media sticks and boxes have better specs than these. There's no technical limitation preventi
  14. Except the only thing the Idatalink module is providing is steering wheel control adapter. There's still no car diagnostics or OEM telematics connection like you can get with Kenwood or Alpine systems. So in other words, nothing has changed.
  15. If Android Auto is anything like Apple Carplay, then the software and UI will run from the phone and not the head unit. All Pioneer would need to do is add the software hooks to existing units, which is trivial especially if the NEX HUs are running Android themselves. Now as to a TRUE working MirrorLink, AVICSYNC, IDatalink functionality, and the documented data-connectivity for the 2014 NEX HUs, these should have been fixed months ago and there's no excuses, especially since these units are running an easily maintained OS now.
