  1. one more thing - for those that had perfectly running units prior to the black screen - you might want to try checking the back up camera before re-installing files. It just might fix the problem.
  2. well I took a chance and installed the firmware 2.008....maybe I should have done the 2.006 first....anyway - still didn't work. I reverted back to the downloaded F700 2.0 files from your download. I thought it was odd that I could get my av to work, cd, phone ( I do have the 290 version...just found out), bluetooth and maps would come up but getting to this was a hassle because of the black screen Each time I started the car or pressed the reset button, it would boot showing the splash screen then black. I would wait like 30 seconds and press the map button. The navi disclaimer would co
  3. Thanks for this post! Like most here - my B700 just stopped - right when I left for a 700 mile trip! Boy was I discouraged - no music, no GPS and well smartphone is nice but really hard to hear through its little speaker! I installed it and while I still have to look through the threads and posts, I still have a problem...the system shows my mod screen when t boots then it goes black. I have to keep pushing the map, menu buttons several times before I get the menu screen. I'm thinking I should update to 3.0 but I think I should find and fix this problem first. As long as the system wo

  5. I bought my F700-BT about 2 years ago with the XM module and the upgraded firmware already installed brand new from a audio store. After all the help from everyone on this site (THANKS!) I had to have it professionally installed because of special wiring components needed for the car to the radio. The system worked great for about 6 months. I started to notice that the XM radio would say "loading" or "no signal". Eventually it went out totally after almost 1 year. After speaking with the installer and talking with XM and Pioneer, I finally had to have the XM unit pulled and sent to Pioneer
  6. I appreciate someone replying. It is very frustrating to know others just seems to have no problems while I am here thinking I have the only F700-BT that has a mind of its own. I do have both the testmode and the Mitacap files and have been using them to get the files and upload and...well...revert back for the updates do not work. I think the data file I should be using is in the APL2 under iGo not the one under the MyFlashDisk. I am gonna check in a bit (just got up..not sleeping well for this darn thing has been bugging me for almost a week now) Question still remains though
  7. Excuse me if this sounds well very basic. I am at wits end searching the threads and trying everything possible to mod my system a bit. I have made some mods that I would like to upload to my F700BT. Problem is, my system just will not take them. I even tried to upload one of completed mods from these threads to see if it would work and well - nope I get the same thing - thick lines going through the screen, original icons showing instead of ones saved to image.res, the navi disclaimer overlapping the screens and the arrow is just an arrow - no car. I decided to take most of the MyFlas
  8. Any help is appreciated. I have made a theme for my AVIC-F700-BT. I followed all the instructions I found here on the website and for some reason, when I load it into the system (my system came with the Firmware 2.0 installed) I get nothing but thick lines going through the screens and the navi disclaimer overlapping all the screens. Thinking I may have my mods incorrect, I tried it with one on this page - same thing. So here are the steps I followed - maybe someone can tell me what I am doing wrong: 1 - downloaded a theme from this thread 2 - Using 7-Zip decompressed/extracted
  9. Boris - Yes I realize they are two different files. I suppose I should have written "extract the (image.res) file which is needed to make the picture mod changes... but thank you very much for the reminder
  10. I just figured that out.... apparently, I have been trying to "open" the file rather than using 7-Zip and Extracting the file. I swear sometimes I can be sooooo dumb! Thanks everyone! Oh just to be certain - I plan to do the following so if anything is wrong - PLEASE let me know: Already completed: - saved original data.zip file on my pc in case I cannot get the mods to work - made a copy of the data.zip file to work from - extracted the files needed to make mod changes using 7-Zip Next Steps: - copy picture I will be changing/editing to my desktop image fold
  11. THANK YOU for the quick response. Guess I am doing something wrong. I have the data.zip file. My 7-Zip does not have a decompress (it does have a compress) but rather "extract" which I did. I can see all the files but when I try to open the image.res it says "windows cannot open this file". So searched (for almost 2 days now) on what software to use to open the file and tried several resource editors and so on. None of the software I have will let me see the scripts in the file. I am at a loss on what people here are using to view the scripts for the image.res file and edit
  12. First - thanks to all for all the helpful information. I just installed my AVIC - F series and have completed basic "mods" (ie custom made splashes). I am new to the site, so when I get a chance I will upload them. I have read all the information on editing the image.res to make custom icons. I saw this quetion asked but could not find the answer... "what software is used to open and edit the image.res file" I tried resource hacker but it will not read 16-bit (which the AVIC uses). I also tried XN resource editor and resource explorer to no avail - cannot open the .res files to
