1. BlackEJ, if you have the AVIC-N3, Look here for the mod and pictures: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80 The N3 is simple as flipping a switch and grounding a wire. The N2 required some soldering or the use of a circuit trace pen, plus grounding a wire. Hope that helps! Mike
2. Nope, I wouldn't do it myself... I'm horrible with taking things apart and putting them together again (as the car's service manual says you have to do with the console to my car to get to the radio), and, I'm just "mechanically inept." I'd have extra parts left when I was done. I'm all there with the features and operating it once it's installed and everything, but the install itself - I'll leave it to a pro. I want everything in one piece when everything is said and done. But, I want that bypass, too, lol. Yes, I did think about doing it myself, but that's just not a good idea, lol.
3. That's good advice, I might do that (the heat gun thing). Makes sense. Thanks!
4.
MY Installer removed the sticker and flipped the switch..The Unit works great....
Did you/he also ground the brake wire, install a switch or anything else?
5. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Oh yeah, that was me incognito. Forgot to sign in.
6. Hi, I was wondering if by any chance anyone has tried the light trick with an AVIC-N3? And if so, did it work? Thanks. Mike
7. Can anyone confirm that the light-flip trick works or doesn't work on the AVIC-N3? Still haven't had my N3 installed yet. (Waiting on a GEX-P5700TV.)
8. Hello, all. I saw the post below my signature on another forum (a Yahoo! Group) about how to bypass the N3 and I just thought I'd pass it on to anyone who was thinking about doing the bypass but was not sure how on the AVIC-N3. Also, I have a question. Can I achieve the parking brake ground by simply pulling up the brake "not enough" to actually engage the brake but enough to turn on the light in my gauge cluster? Supposedly there's a switch that the E-Brake lever presses in when the E-Brake is pulled, and I can turn on the "BRAKE" light (engage the switch) w/o actually braking. I'm w
9. I'm about to have the AVIC-N3 installed in my car, whenever it gets here, and I'm also waiting on a GEX-P5700 TV Tuner. Does anyone else have an N3/GEX combo installed? I was wondering how the interface is... is it similar to the iPod thing where there's little control but not much? Or, is there better integration between the units? Also, does the GEX come with a remote? thx
10. Is it possible to do some things with voice command while driving that you can't do on the touch screen (due to factory lockout)? Also, is the voice command function activated with a PTT (Push to talk) button or is it "always listening?"
11. I currently have a Kenwood head unit in my car, with a Kenwood 10-disc changer in the trunk. Is there any chance that the Pioneer AVIC-N3 will work with a Kenwood brand CD changer, or do I need to look at Pioneer's changers?
12. In case I've not made it obvious in my last posts, I don't have the AVIC-N3 (or any nav unit for that matter) yet. So all I know, I've learned from Pioneer and this Web site. I've heard that most functionality while driving is locked out (w/o the bypass), so I was wondering: What can you do while driving? For example, can you: -Look up McDonalds or a rest stop without parking, while traveling? -Zoom/Pan the map while driving? What else can you do? What things can you not do that you wish you could on a regular basis (if you don't have the bypass)? And, can you mess with yo
13. Okay, I gotta say, all I've heard about is Nav nav nav nav. So: I notice that there is not an intuitive CD player/radio interface on the face plate for the AVIC-N3 (or any other for that matter). So, I was wondering, is the CD player interface easy to use, or do you have to look at it too much? I'm talking for standard audio CD's and/or MP3-CD's. Also, does the factory lockout still let you navigate tracks or files?
14. I've been looking at the AVIC-N3 (will be my first Nav unit) and resources say so much about Satellite Radio and DVD and CD and everything... Is there an AM/FM radio function, too? And, will the head unit activate my power antenna so it will go up and down? How is radio reception? Because I don't want to pay for music that I can get for free. If there's not AM/FM radio, I might keep my other head unit (for which I already have a CD changer) and use the AUX input to port the audio through the AVIC-N3. What a waste of an AUX input, though. lol
