  1. Well, two years later I finally got up the nerve to do the upgrade (using discs I bought on eBay). I'm happy to report that everything went fine, even though my D3 is 11 years old!!! The unit's got an iPod adapter, XM radio and Bluetooth with A2DP audio streaming. Why would I replace this thing if it still works and has all the features I want?! Sure, even the 2012 the maps are six years old at this point, but up to now I've been living with maps from 2007 and mostly doing fine. Anyway, if you've still got one of these units and it works well, don't hesitate to do the update. If you
  2. Your best bet may be to buy a cheap older iPod on eBay and get the iPod adapter.
  3. So I've had an AVIC D3 installed in my MR2 since these unit were released back on 2007. I've got the ipod adapter, the bluetooth module and just today finally got around to switching out the lame Sirius module for the much better XM module (picked one up on eBay). This unit has served me well for years, and honestly, does everything I expect an auto head unit to do. No real desire to swap it out for something newer as long as it's still working. Lately I have been getting an itch to update the unit to the 2012 maps (I'm currently running the ancient maps it came with). Does anyone know
  4. I feel like your unit should be getting TIME/DATE information from the GPS satellites. As far as I remember the only thing you can change is whether it's daylight saving or not.
  5. have you tried resetting the unit? Mine goes "dead" occasionally in really cold weather, but a "reset" brings it back up just fine. Look for a small pin-hole sized opening on the face of the unit, just to the right of the eject button, and poke a pen tip in it. That will reset the unit. Might work. I think you will have to reprogram all your setting, though.
  6. I just bought an HTC touch on Ebay. They're quite cheap these days coming from Taiwan. With the Jetware software phonebook transfer works well. And I'm really digging this new phone, too!
  7. Or a Sirius display done right. The Sirius display in my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is amazing, really love it. The Pioneer Sirius display is truly lame, but since it's the only game in town I'm sticking with it. Plus, I don't want to pay an extra $6.00 a month to subscribe to Sirius and XM. Maybe with a little luck the merger will make that issue go away eventually, then I can swap in the XM box and have a nice display and a slightly different radio lineup in my MR2.
  8. LOL, I wonder where he got that $6500.00. Guy needs to be harrassed on the VW boards for what he did.
  9. Yeah, they're full of crap. All you need is the PNR2 box to receive Sirus. Plugs right in to the D3. Don't know about rewinding or recording radio with the unit, though. Never tried it and never come across any controls to do it.
  10. Hey guys, you may or may not know that Tweeters is going out of business. Well about a week ago I stopped by my local store and found that they were selling BTB200 bluetooth units for $95.00. That's pretty decent, but I decided to wait. Then last night I went back and found them blowing them out for $55.00 a piece. At that point I couldn't resist, so I picked one up. These units are going for about $120.00 shipped on eBay. Our Tweeters closes down for good on the 7th. They had 4 more units in stock. These are NIB, with full warranty, not open box or anything. While I'm not really that
  11. LOL, that's exactly what I was thinking!
  12. Can someone post pictures of the XM interface? Now that the XM/Sirius merger has gone through I'm hoping I can add XM to my D3 for the price of an additional receiver (my car has Sirius built-in). I know the XM interface on the D3 is much better than the Sirius interface I've got now, but want to get a better idea of what I'll be enjoying if I go this route.
  13. I've never had a problem with the mapping, however, the iPod menu button issue is one that should really be addressed through a patch/update. This is where the "menu" button on the iPod play screen becomes non-functional after you stop and restart the car. This has been an issue from the get go and I don't think Apple had anything to do with it.
  14. The factory navigation unit in my Mitsubishi Lancer does pretty much everything my D3 in my MR2 does with the bypass, except play DVDs. Unless you're watching a movie while driving and a cop sees you doing it, you're not going to get in trouble. And by then it'd be too late to pull the p-brake anyway. Also, pulling the p-brake by itself won't give you full fuctionality of the bypass. Keep in mind that when you ground the p-brake wire, it's as if the p-brake were being pulled all the time anyway. To successfully perform the mod, however, you also have to modify the pin-out configuration on
  15. My experience is that Sat Radio reception is a lot more placement critical than Nav reception. You pretty much do have to have the Sirius antenna outside the car. Not so for the Nav antenna.
