  1. I haven't used CarPlay in a long while on my AVIC-8000NEX, but last night I updated my NEX to 1.15 and tried CarPlay but it doesn't connect. I'm not sure if the 1.15 update broke it or an iOS update? Does anybody else have this problem? EDIT: Hmm... I just updated to iOS 11.4 (on iPhone X) and now CarPlay works? Maybe I just needed to reboot the phone? Very odd.
  2. I've confirmed that you cannot play any external media (except DVD it seems) to the rear displays when carplay or android auto is being used. This seems to really limit the dual-zone capability of the unit making it somewhat pointless. Overall the W8400NEX is a bit more snappy than the 8000NEX and the screen is a little nicer but I'm not sure it's worth the upgrade... (FYI, the Kenwood stereos also don't allow rear video playback when carplay/android auto is being used... seems very strange!)
  3. It looks like the brand new AVIC-W8400NEX is now available for sale on Crutchfield and other sites. I'm really excited for the wireless Apple Carplay (and Android Auto if I ever switch). It looks like it also supports WiFi Miracast if you have an older Android phone or other device that supports it. Hopefully you can use the controls while the car is driving or a bypass is discovered! EDIT: It looks like you can't play video from SD/USB to the rear displays when CarPlay is being used?!!
  4. I'm trying to transcode some videos for my AVIC-8000NEX (to be displayed on rear headrest screens) but I'm a little confused. The manual for the NEX says the screen is: Screen size/aspect ratio: 6.95 in / 16:9 Effective display area: 156.6 mm x 81.6 mm Pixels: 1152000 (2400x480) (this must be incorrect???) After doing some research I believe the screen is actually 800x480 (WVGA). However, this resolution is 5:3 and not 16:9 unless the pixels aren't square. I'm also confused even more because 156.6 / 81.6 is ~1.91. Can anybody help me with the confusion?
  5. I'm a little confused... I don't plan on upgrading right away, but are any of these for the AVIC-8000NEX?
  6. I've been away for a while so I'm wondering if there has been any progress on upgrading the 8000NEX to 81000NEX for Android Auto support?
  7. Hmmm, I don't know but I thought I read that Bluetooth does not work if you do that. (at least when flashing the AVIC-8000NEX with the AVIC-8100NEX image)
  8. I'm trying to an create an image of the internal memory card (using the copy script and DD), but I got a read error: /dev/block/mmcblk0: read error: I/O error Is this normal? I think I can retry and ignore read errors using conv=noerror, but I'm not sure.
  9. Thanks. Maybe with the new 2016 NEX units being released it will drop the prices of the older NEX units so they could be used for testing. I'd love to run some tests on my AVIC-8000NEX but it's installed in my car and much too difficult to remove and perform tests, etc. I did look on eBay for some older AVIC-4000NEX units but they still seem to costs several hundred dollars which is too expensive for a test/bench unit.
  10. I'm going to backup the NOR and SD card later from my 8000-NEX (v1.11). Would this be useful to upload anywhere? Also, any progress on re-enabling WARP? Lastly, if you install a custom launcher, can you re-launch the NEX launcher/apps? (It sounds like somebody needs to get a USB wifi dongle working though for Google Maps, unless you use the later versions that support offline maps?)
  11. Hmmm, is there any way to run Google Maps or another Android launcher on the 8000-NEX? If you can install Xposed it seems like you could easily install a different launcher?
  12. Right, so is there any benefit to this crack besides map updates? (for the AVIC-8000NEX units)
  13. What's the advantage for 8000-NEX users? It sounds like I can get map updates for ... cheaper shall we say? Is there anything else that would be available that is not currently available?
