    New ipod and D3

no. the D3's product line is too old for it to have the authentication chip. the theory is Pioneer needs to come out with a new iPod direct cable with the chip, and everything will be good. that or someone hacks the ipod

    New ipod and D3

they didn't ELIMINATE it, it just won't work without authentication with, um, "authenticated" apple hardware. it's so stupid, why don't they eliminate the headphone jack if it's not connected with the retarded apple earbuds too, christ.
  3. you mean built into the D3 right lol but you could be right...could just be the cable.
  4. oh i see...i thought the chips were around for some time, but yeah i see now not a lot of products have the said chips. i believe someone will crack the ipod for universal playback; no one with the right mind would sit still and watch steve jobs try to get everyone into their stupid inner trust circle and milk every goddamn dime out of the consumers.
  5. so i take it you already tried and failed, as far as video output's concerned? browsing is really fast now, right...i might just buy the classic anyway just because of it.
  6. yeah i just read about the new ipods and its inability to play through unapproved third party devices. i was going to buy an ipod classic, but i might just hold off for a bit... but then, the thing is not that the video function doesn't work, it just doesn't turn on. with appropriate validation (apple's recommending buy their component devices, oh joy), something called Apple authentication chip, the video function does turn on. so the main question is whether or not the D3, given its more-expensive-than-the-average-gadget price tag, has it.
  7. i noticed that on the D3, the yellow RCA video output only works when you're playing a video. is there a way for it to display exactly what the main screen is displaying, i.e. GPS map?

    Rear of D3

anyone got pics of the rear of the D3? specifically, i wanted to know how many RCA outputs it has. i'm planning to hook up two headrest monitors for the van, but i need to know if i need any RCA splitters/extenders/amplifiers. any info is appreciated.
  9. i'd soooooooooooooooooooooo do it... $250 for a map is just...you know, cruel. a map from the gas station is like...$2. i have a gas station just down my street that closed down like...six months ago, but for some reason my map says it's there...even though it's supposed to be dated january. *shrug*
  10. yeah...dvd DL media aren't cheap. if you're willing to pay everything though, i can do it for you...but like i said, all the costs are on you.
  11. set your screen resolution to 480 x 320. auto crop. i also suggest you use chapter markers to navigate through the movie. don't worry about the movie changing extension from mp4 to m4v; m4v will work on the pod just fine. i've set video bitrate to 1280 and audio to 160kbps 48000hz. your movies will come out somewhere between 900mb to 1.2gb per movie, but i find it's pretty much a minimum requirement if you want the colors to not be blocky and the movie to look good. oh, and on the D3 make sure you set the movie display to "full". it'll automatically stretch horizontal only; the vertical he
  12. actually, it's worth quite a lot. on pioneer's site the dvd runs for $250+. you can buy one on ebay for $100 i believe.
  13. lol you mean i have to edit the 3000 or so ID3 tags so i can at least read what song i'm listening to. awesome.
  14. despite the D3 being able to support many, and i do mean many, language codes, i noticed that it doesn't actually support ANY east asian text. i have a lot of mp3 files that have east asian characters in the ID3 tag, but on the D3 the only thing that appears is, well, nothing. it literally converts all the unicode characters to spaces. is there a way to make the D3 read unicode, or am i dreaming too big?
  15. i read some guides for the software handbrake (convert movies to ipod and play it from there), and i ended up using crude anamorphic, which is basically morphing it to fit the D3 before i put it on the pod...i still get like...1mm black bars top and bottom, but i think i can live with that. at least the picture's not deformed.
