Is the screen black with icons on the right side? If so, make sure that AppRadio has launched on your phone. If it doesn't automatically, launch it from the phone.

I bought X940BT today and I have the same problem.

I'm using the apple cable that came with my ipod(since I'm not interested in video, just the audio). I can see my playlist etc but no audio. Did anyone find a solution for this? I don't think I have to buy Pioneer cable for this? or Do I?

Appreciate any help. Other than this, this unit seems to fantastic.

You must use the special Pioneer cable to connect to the X940BT. A regular iPod cable will not work.

Yes, you plug the steering wheel control in the wired remote input. The other similar input is for the bluetooth mic.

You can pair up to 5 devices, but only one can be connect at a time. Have you checked the bluetooth setting for your phone to make sure it is set to "Headset and Audio"?

I had the same problem on the 940BT using the mic from my Onkyo receiver. I discovered that the noise I made closing the door before the test began would give me the error. When I quietly closed the door it worked without a hitch. Don't know if this will help, but it seemed to work for me.
