  1. If you (or somebody else) run into that problem again, try "downgrading" your firmware to the version that is on your original disks. I know you didn't update your firmware, but it will rewrite and reset everything.
  2. Thanks gr33ko ... I looked through my manual, no luck. I have the D1 and it may not have that feature.
  3. I am still interested in the security lockout feature, not a secret code to unlock it, but how to set my own password. I really don't drive all that much during the summer (electric bicycle) and would like to password protect my unit during the season.
  4. We can password protect our Avics?
  5. If properly hooked up, the AVIC will not blow your light fuse. I have an Avic D1 and my screen goes to night colours when the headlights are turned on. I never had any fuse problems whatsoever. I love how it switches btwn the day and night colours automatically when you turn your headlights on, that is one very important feature. The Avic would be a bloody spotlight in your face at night if it was in day colour mode! As for the VSS, hook that up too. It improves accuracy and continues to track your vehicle when satellite signals are intermittantly lost (caused by tunnels, tall bu
  6. Silly question ... you did use a dual layer DVD-R and a dual layer DVD burner, right? If so, maybe try a different brand of DVD.
  7. I would go back to your installers ... something wrong there. If it is intermittant, then my first guess would be a loose wire or a short of some kind.
  8. why would they be free? does Microsoft offer free upgrades to their newest OS when its released? $250US is unreasonable. When I had a Garmin Quest, my first upgrade was free and the second upgrade was under $100 Canadian. Not to mention any firmware bug fixes and additional firmware upgrades or new features were free.
  9. Some camera's (mine included) say to hook to the reverse light power wire right in the instructions (i just checked). I have heard that it could damage the camera to receive power all of the time, although mine did not say anything about that. I just mention it because the installer may have simply followed the instructions that came with the camera.
  10. I was able to successfully calibrate my screen as well with the latest map disks. Works perfect now.
  11. Probably the camera power wire is hooked up to the reverse lights in your car. The camera itself is only receiving power when the vehicle is in reverse and the reverse lights are on. Thus, you get a picture when the vehicle is in reverse but not when in park or driving.
  12. Cool. I made a copy of this shortcut on my desktop and reported little glitches to TeleAtlas already. Are the new map sets (CNDV70) using TeleAtlas, or did they change map providers? Maybe that shortcut should be made as a sticky around here??
  13. Has anyone tried recalibrating their screen on the D1 yes with the new disks ... just wondering if the firmware was modified for a more accurate screen calibration - in particular with the right side of the screen.
  14. I would not put labels on any backup disks ... the AVIC runs pretty hot. You don't want to take a chance that the label would cause the disk to warp or worse, start to peel off inside the unit.
