  1. sound really gonna be a function of a lot of things - i swapped out the stock speakers in my wrangler unlimited rubicon and upgraded to morel separates and a pioneer sub (which i love and am very happy with) - however, i also upgraded the amp to an alpine unit, and my guess is without doing that, the sound improvement wouldn't be quite as good. so' it's really a combo approach in my opinion with new amp, new speakers, new sub etc. to really fine tune the sound you want. swapping out speakers is a start for sure and there are probably a host of aftermarket options you'd prefer, but don't expect
  2. yeah, that could have been it - seems since i already had the last firmware update in my downloads file, my mac automatically added the "2" to distinguish the file. thanks!
  3. yes - copying the unzipped folder entitled AVIC5000NEX-2 and of course connected to USB1
  4. oh, and it's an 8000NEX, and i already have 1.06
  5. i've tried three different usb sticks, two different SD cards, all formatted to FAT-32, and all completely empty with the exception of the update folder. yet i keep getting a file error telling me that the update file should be the only file on the disk. it is. i've successfully updated every time in the past with a slew of different pioneer products, etc. but this time i am stumped. anyone? any ideas? this is nuts. i know what i'm doing, been there, done that, but this time, it will not work?? UPDATE: SO THE ORIGINAL DOWNLOAD AND UNZIP WAS DONE ON MY MB PRO WHICH I UPDATED TO YOSEMITE
  6. factory amp and factory speakers will bring out the worst in a good head unit. if you really want high quality audio at high volumes, you must invest in an aftermarket amplifier, speakers, and sub. otherwise, lower the volume and enjoy
  7. i got this initially as well. all i did was shut down and restart the iphone and voila!
  8. yeah, not exactly the pinnacle of professionalism. weak!
  9. In 2014, the autumnal equinox brings the fall season to the Northern Hemisphere on: September 22 at 10:29 P.M. EDT. So, Pioneer, you've got about a day and half to get Carplay to us. Let's do this thing!
  10. yeah, not really a question, just a rant. i wish pioneer nav products offered ability to passcode the navigation screen so that valets, parking lot attendants, etc. can't access. i've had this on several OEM products in past. maybe i'm just missing it, but can't find the option on the 8000 NEX. otherwise, pretty darn happy with it.
  11. nex8000 install today - bypass working like a charm. thanks all
  12. thanks all, so deciphering, it appears that the setup is essentially the same as with my avic z150 - if i want direct control of the iphone/ipod WITHOUT using appradio mode then i connect usb to lightning. however if i want all the video features, full connection available through hdmi/lightning connection I CAN NOT access iphone/ipod music directly. and switching from one to the other requires going into the setup menus and switching inputs. so basically the same stupid setup that does not allow for direct control of an iphone's music library AND the features of appradio. too bad...
  13. i am trying to get clarification on whether the unit allows for direct control of the iphone music library through the lightning cable WITHOUT using appradio mode. i currently have an avic1500 and if i want to control the music library (wired and not through bluetooth) i am forced to use carmedia player (or other app through appradio mode) assuming i want to keep lightning connection and not go to a 30pin/lightening adapter. it's my understanding that the 8000NEX will allow me to control iphone music directly when the phone is plugged in without having to first engage appradio mode. is thi
  14. best news (if it's actually true) is the direct control of the iphone as a music source without having to go through appradio mode. i just hope it's true and works with iphone 5 and up.
  15. just did the comparison between my z150 and the new NEX8000 - looks like the z150 is actually more feature packed (at least in some areas). BUT, and this is a big one, it appears that the new unit offers direct control of iphone/ipod which could be great if it's actually true. currently with z150 the only way to access music (if you have the hdmi/vid set up) is via bluetooth or appradio mode - and it would be so much easier/nicer if one could just plug their phone in and have access to their entire music library without having to go through bluetooth, carmediaplayer, or another crappradio app.
