  1. The engine noise in the GMC's is purely caused by the Bose / Onstar interfaces. It's an issue with the modules themselves. I've used the GMOS04 from Metra, the Soundgate module and as of yesterday an Axxess from Best Buy. The Metra, had the engine noise unless the amp gain of the module was about 10% or less for me. The metra also had a firmware bug where the door chime would chime non stop for 10 minutes (even if the doors were closed) if you closed the door at the exact same time you put the key in the ignition (exactly why I dumped the metra module). The soundgate module fixed the d
  2. I got my update from a pioneer rep, and they generated the code I needed based on the serial number of my Z1. So no I didn't get a code from the pioneer website, but I did have to enter a code to do the upgrade itself. I'm willing to try the upgrade again and a reset, but I'm fairly confident I'm gonna be in the same boat as I am currently where the bypass doesn't work.
  3. To answer whtcrxghst's question, no it's not bypassed. I've got a Jun 06 Z1, I've got the update installed from Pioneer and confirmed my software version is now 2.0 (aka Z2), and I can confirm that it's not bypassed by either the flasher or the 2-wire bypass. I had both bypass methods on my Z1 from the pre-bluetooth update and post bluetooth update for the Z1 and after installing the Z1 to Z2 update (yes the one that takes 3+ hours) I've got a crippled Z2 that's not bypassed.
  4. The XM antenna won't work under the dash. I currently have mine sitting on the dash by the windshield and I lose the signal about 50% more often than I did with the factory XM antenna. You can supposedly tap into the GM Factory XM antenna. I haven't done it yet, but it can be done. There's a couple of things to know at least on my 04 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew that have kept me from doing it. First the Factory XM tuner appears to be mounted to the firewall behind the glove box so you need the antenna lead to go from there to wherever you placed your Pioneer XM tuner. For me that's under the cen
  5. Even with no route programmed in, you'll still always see the traffic pattern if it's available on the map. Keep in mind that the colors for the traffic pattern blink every couple of seconds so it can be a bit distracting if you're driving and catch the blinking out of the corner of your eye. So you don't need to calculate a route or anything to see the traffic data and average speeds, accidents, congestion etc.
  6. I've got to say personally I think the XM Traffic is only worth it as the $3 add on to normal XM service and not as a stand alone service. Even at that it's 50% a cool factor for showing people and only 50% helpful with traffic. Here in the Seattle area at least I'm constantly seeing that the traffic is a mile or more off so I'm already stuck in gridlock well before the NAVTraffic tells me I should be. I'll be sitting at a dead stop and looking at the map it tells me I won't hit that traffic for at least another mile. There's been quite a few times that I could have easily taken an altern
  7. I know people have complained about the lag time of listening to the lady yap the confirmations when doing voice commands. I just posted a reply to a thread about the SR1 remote but I thought I'd post this snipit as well seperately for anyone that's not aware of this trick. It doesn't completely disable her talking but it does temporarily and it's simple and makes voice commands quick and painless now...at least for me anyway. From my other post: [i]Oh, one last trick I found with the SR1 that I hadn't realized before. If you double press the voice command button (on the remote or he
  8. I got mine delivered last Friday. It's decent and I'm amazed at the controls I randomly get that aren't factory. For example I had to hook up a PAC SWI steering wheel interface to get "Mute" functionality. Then I get the SR1 remote which has a phone menu button that takes you directly to the phone menu (obviously) which allows you to look up numbers or digit dial with the Z1. Great menu to have direct access to since otherwise it's about 4 menu button presses to get there with the Z1 and no remote. It's also nice to have the voice command and cancel button on the SR1 to do voice comm
  9. To answer your questions about illumination and the chime module. Circuit City uses the Metra OnStar / Chime Module interface. I bought my module from them to use it instead of the PAC interface that's twice the price. Yes there's a volume adjustment on it and my guess is that if the chime is annoyingly loud then you're likely going to hear motor noise as well. I found that the default volume of the module is a painfully loud door chime but also that I had a constant motor noise like a typical cheap amp or ground loop issue. I've got mine dialed down to about 15% on the module and the mot
  10. My install of the SWI-PS took about 15 minutes, the programming took about 5 and there's zero lag. I'm using mine in a GMC truck, so to the poster that said it took his installer 4 hours to put the SWI-PS into his Avalanche you should demand your money back, it couldn't have been any easier to install in a GM vehicle especially compared to the typical hoops with the Bose amp and OnStar interfaces. Any button I hit on my steering wheel controls is a short press and instantly recognized by the Z1. And the best feature about the SWI-PS is that I get a mute button now on the Z1. I'm stil
  11. Assuming your street shows up on the map and the routing just doesn't know the street name or number... When you're sitting in front of your house or in your driveway you can just press the screen where you are (the big navigation arrow) and it'll pop up a screen to ask you if you want to add it to your address book. It'll show up from then on with a big red pushpin on the map whether you've selected it as a destination or not and then it also shows up in your address book. This is detailed on page 60 of the user manual under "Registering Location by Scroll Mode". Page 59 has instruc
  12. I'm in the same boat. Our development is 3 years old and no NAV system I've ever seen knows that our street exists. The Z1 shows our street which is a step up from any other system I've seen, but it doesn't recognize the address or street name it just shows the street on the map. I had to put a pushpin in the map where our house is and now it can get me there via the address book, but no by the address. I think in general all map systems are pretty far behind on updates like new streets for new developments. I don't think it's specific to the Z1 it's a common problem with most mapping sof
  13. My guess the mic isn't actually plugged in. I don't think the Z1 has any logic to detect the mic being plugged in as to whether it shows you the voice command icon or not, as far as I can tell it's always there. I had my mic come unplugged a couple of times with the hassle of stuffing so many wires into such a cramped space in my dash. It would have been nice if pioneer had mad a connector that would clip in on the Z1 like the other connections. I'd bet it's the mic connection itself. It sucks having to pull the deck back out of any install, but that's where my money would be given t

    RDS?

I've not found a way to enable RDS either and I've not found any Z1 literature that indicates it has RDS. I think it's lame their top end nav head unit doesn't have RDS and I'd definitely like to have it as well since all stations here in Seattle broadcast RDS signals as well. It's a bit lame that presets take up such a large part of the UI to show a few numbers when they could display the station name and then artist / song info up at the top just like the other system inputs (XM, CD, Library etc).
  15. Unless I have some configuration issue I'm less than impressed with how the Z1 uses the channel logos. If I search by category it shows the logos for all of the stations. However when I save a channel to a preset and then change stations based on presets I get the logo for 1 out of 6 of the presets. The rest just have that lame "on air" logo that takes up 20% of the screen. Who cares if the station is on air, if it wasn't I wouldn't be listening to it since the Z1 doesn't have any PVR functionality for XM like the Inno. Does anyone know how I can get the station logos to show up
