Assuming you already have at least a 2GB SD card and some sort of card reader for your computer...

1. Download the TestMode archive (AVIC411 Forum) (if you get an extraction error, try this Alternate Megaupload Link). The current version of the archive as of this writing is in RAR format.

2. Extract the "testmode" folder in the archive file to the root of your SD card.

3. Insert the SD card into your AVIC and turn the vehicle on.

4. After the splash screen, a Windows CE desktop with several icons on the desktop will appear (DiskRW, Restart, Tascal RegEdit, Total Commander and WR Tools as of this writing, could change with a later version of Testmode).

5. (optional) You may want to * Recalibrate * the screen at this point to navigate a little easier. See instructions below.

6. After calibration and closing the Control Panel window, double click My Device on the Desktop.

7. Select My Flash Disk and click Edit -> Copy at the top.

8. Double click Storage Card in the same window.

9. Click Edit -> Paste from the top of the window.

Let the system copy all of the necessary files to your SD card. It may take 10-15 minutes to complete. Once it is done, turn your vehicle off and remove the SD card. Then copy the contents of this folder to a safe location on your computer for use later if you encounter problems with any hacks/mods.

  • How to Recalibrate the Screen in test mode *

This is recommended to be able to navigate the Test Mode environment a little easier. To do this, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Stylus -> Calibration and click the Calibrate button. Then follow the steps on the screen.
