need help! RCA input noise

hey so i know that this topic has been covered some already on here but i couldn't find any active threads so i figured i would start a new one..

so i got my d3 installed and since i have a zune, not an ipod, i figured i would buy this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8237268&st=dual&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1168043811381 and connect it to the video input cables on the white harness in the back of the unit and then i bought this cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2217592&cp=2032054.2222882.2224130&allCount=226&fbn=Brand%2FAccurian&f=Brand%2F1000101%2F&fbc=1&parentPage=family to connect it to the zune and i figured i could hook my xbox 360 into the thing from bestbuy as well. So anyways, when i connect my zune the audio works fine but the video is all noise, i can see what should be displayed but it is distorted and there are while lines flashing up the screen. When the xbox is connected the video is maybe 75% but the sound quality is really bad. I have read that to fix this you can ground a wire from the shielding on one of the RCA cables but do i actually cut into the insulation around the wire to get to the copper braided shielding on the inside or is there an easier way? Which wire would i connect it to: red white or yellow and would i do it on the bestbuy thing or straight into the RCA wires on the d3 harness? This is pretty much the last thing i need to fix before the d3 works for me so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'll try.

the yellow is video.

and usually:

red = right audio

white = left audio.

RCA type cables usually are co-axial (2 wires on a common axis)

so the hot lead is the tip (inner wire)

and the outer braid is the ground (the outer shell connector)

so to test your theory about a ground, you should be able to attach a GOOD ground to the car chassis, and then wrap that ground wire around the outside of the red/white connector

since you are coming off a headphone style jack, all the grounds are tied together inside the headphone jack, so grounding one lead, should ground them all.

and, maybe try and disconnect the audio & see if the video clears up.

if nothing else, you may have to take the harness apart, and run a ground (from where you tied the radio's harness to the adapter harness)

and tie that ground to the vehicle chassis, and to the chassis of the radio, and back out to your RCA cable collection.

as a LAST resort, you can try a set of male to male RCA cables, and just touch the inner tips together (not touch the grounds at all) if you get

a good signal that way (audio & video) you will need to break the ground connection by making a RCA jumper, where just the inner pins are connected (and not the outer shield/ground)

i dunno. maybe one of the professional installers will know more.

so i took out my whole headunit and cut into the rubber insulation around the red and yellow wires on the headunit (not on my adapter) and attached a ground to the braided wire of each one at a time but neither helped the video. I did this with my zune and the sound quality was great but the video was still all stripes of what should have been displayed.. i tried touching the two male ends together like you said using the video 2 input on the front of the unit and that did nothing so the problem is with both inputs... any other ideas guys? i managed to fix everything else with this that bestbuy managed to screw up so if i could only get this video problem working i would be completely satisfied...
