Do I really have to scroll through hundreds of iPod lists?

...to get to the song I want? This is on an AVIC-D3

Let's say I have 300 pages of artist names, and the one I want to listen to alphabetically comes in at number 150. Do I really have to either press the up or down arrow 150 times to get to that artist, or hold the button down and listen to it beep 150 times and wait minutes for it to get there?

This can't be right. I must be missing something. Pioneer wouldn't possibly be that idiotic, would they? I mean, why copy over the look and feel of the scroll wheel, if it isn't going to allow the ability to quickly scroll down your lists and also see what letter you're on?

Any hacks, ideas, or ways to deal with it?

thats it, deal with it

What's the deal, did the people at Pioneer never actually use their product before they released it? Five minutes actually using it would have told them that it is absolutely unacceptable to have to literally press a damn button 200 times to get to the album you want.

Count yourself lucky. I had the 980BT with the Ipod interface unit. It would literally only show 3 artists then lag like a 56k connection playing Counter Strike when you tried to scroll further.

In the end, you had to cull down your artist list, make a ton of playlists or just be patient and hope you could get to the song you wanted before you made it to your destination.

Ultimately its why I sold the dang thing.

You can make a playlist for each letter of the alphabet

I think I am going to have to do that.

Or you could narrow down your artist list by selecting a single genre first.

I just ordered one and this concerns me.....I havent installed it yet, but based on the pictures theres a bar between the up/down arrows...can you drag that? Also would having a remote help scrolling go faster?

Thanx

You can unplug the ipod, select the song/album you want, the plug it back in and hit play and it will be where you set it. Works on the D2!

I hope you're joking...

I'm surprised you didn't recommend I buy an FM transmitter for the iPod...

At first, that sounded like a pain, but now I'm starting to think this will be the best option. Thanks

I think I like the alphabet idea.

I took someones advice from the forum here and changed the genre to a single letter-a-z-#, I then went into itunes and renamed the genre to the artist name (just a single letter). Now if I want to search, I select the artist-album-song.

Its a little bit to set up but it does work great.

Sounds interesting, but I don't follow how you're going about this. Do you mind expanding on it a bit?

He basically means change the genre of all the artists who's names start with A to "A", all the artists who's names that with B to "B", etc.

That way, when you turn on the ipod interface, you push the GENRE button, it brings up a list, A through Z. Select a letter, and all the artists who's names start with that letter are selected, select the artist you want.... etc.

It works, but what it ends up doing is removing your ability to sort by actual genre, Rock, R&B, Etc. I would just make a playlist for each letter of the alphabet and call it a day. It does the same thing, but leaves you the option to sort it by actual genres as well.

IIRC, you can create smart playlists in itunes, which will create the playlists for you

I went into my Itunes on the computer. It is easier to do if you click -show browser- Look for all of the artist names that begin with the letter A- multi select them-right click on them-get info-click the info tab-under the genre box type in the letter A-then click ok.

Repeat this for all of the letters of the alphabet-use the # sign for artist that begin with numbers.

The only labels under the genre setting now will be A-Z-#. You will not see rock, country,R & B etc any more.

After you are done syncing you can view them on the pioneer unit under the genre tab from the screen. Now you can view the letter A and it will show only A labeled artists, after you pick the artist you can then choose the album and then the song.

Hope that is a better clarificatin. If you search the forum you will find similiar posts. It made it a lot easier to navigate, I have over 15000 songs on the ipod.
