Thanks for the reply Skicrave. I think I connected to the wrong wire initially. I was getting numbers in the thousands...I had all the bars lit up. I rewired it and the numbers are much less.
I think it depends on the vehicle. And I also think the number displayed is a number which was divisable buy the real signal to the computer.
Personally in my lincoln I get just under 1/2 of the MPH, it might be 2/5 or so like skicrave stated.
But it seems like that's not enough resolution to handle a cruise control or the speed of the car. They might only show you a number that if you multiply it by 10 you get the true number of pulses the vehicle and Z1 sees. This display is just something to give you some kind of feedback as to what is goind on.
So 9 or 10 at highway speed might be ok for your vehicle. Does that number start at 1 and then climb to 9 or 10 evenly as you accelerate? If so it's probalby fine.
Just spent my first full day with my new Z1, but I have been reading everything, including the manuals, for the last 2 weeks. According to the manual the Z1 will monitor the VSS and over time adapt to it. So I don't think the numbers really matter, only that the pulses on the VSS vary proportionately to speed. For reference, my '06 Explorer did about 3-4 in the parking lot and got up to about 24 - 25 on the highway (approx. 60-ish).
Can someone explain the purpose of the speed pulse? What happens if it is not connected?
NO speed pluse = NO 3D Mode. Also, the VSS pulse allows the Z1 to maintain nav when satellites maybe unavailable...like in a tunnel, covered parking structure, etc... My suggestion, if you can find the VSS, connect it (it's just one wire). Just my 2¢
