I've been wondering if it is possible to switch out the Z1's HDD with the Z2. If so is there a kind of reset that has to be performed or do I just switch them out and start it back up. I have One laying around from a client that got in a pretty severe accident.

No reset needed, just swap and go...the unit with say updating and bam, you are good to go.

tried switching out the hdds it say its a unreadable hdd. you sure that it's as easy as you say. By the way i'm in montreal Canada, is there a possibility that canadian models are different?

The drive is locked to that unit. You can follow the steps in the Z1 to Z2 upgrade guide to unlock and remove security on your drive.
