I installed my Avic Z1 this weekend using the Metra 99-7402 TurboKit in a 2003 Nissan 350Z. Much to my surprise the door will not open. I will have to remove the dash and possibly move the stock brackets forward on the unit to sink it deeper in the dash. Or get out my dremel and dremel the trim ring to gain the neededspace to allow the screen to open. This is my first DoubleDin NAvi install so I have not encountered this previously.
Should I be using a different kit/trim ring?
SHould I focus on mounting the stock brackets closer to the front of fthe unit to sink it deeper in the dash? Or is it time to whip out the dremel? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You most likely have it squished in there, or you used too long of screwes holding the brackets in and jamed the gears. 2-3mm depth max.

Actually I had to drill new holes on the stock brackets to sink the Z1 slightly into the dash board. Using the stock holes made the unit stick out just far enough that the top of the unit would hit the metra kit as it opened.

A friend of mine just installed an alpine iva-w200 (double din) into the dash of his 2003 350z. A few things I remember him saying:

1. He had to drill holes in the original mounting plates and had the unit stick out just a hair.
2. Crutchfield sent him a new trim piece to allow the unit to open and close properly.
