constant noise from unit-- sounds like the disk spinning

I have 2 avic D1 units in mine and my wife's car... they both have a constant spinning sound ... sounds like to disk humming... this sound is there regardsless of weather...

any thoughts?

I am using ebay Nav disks

Also.. these sounds just started recently and I have had these units for over 1 year....

Do the D1 units have a cooling fan in them like the D3 does? If so, that's probably it.

the noise stops when I remove the nav disk though.....

Well then I guess that's the sound of the nav disk spinning. Try zooming the map out a lot so it doesn't have to update as much. I believe if you're zoomed in on the map, it will have to update the map more often as you drive, even if the map isn't what's being displayed or even if there is no destination programmed in.
