D3 wont play audio CD's

The strangest behavior, but my D3 will play music cd's generally fine in the morning for about 15 minutes. Then it will stop playing. Like it can't read the disk. If you eject the disk, and put it back in, then it will read for up to a minute, then stop again.

However, it can read the NAV dvd fine.

This happens with store bought CD's as well as burned disks.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

no ideas?

Some units that play DVD's as well as CD's use two separate lenses to do so. Perhaps the D3 uses this kind of setup and the CD lens is dirty? Try using a lens cleaning disk on it. If it doesn't work, it's always good to have one anyway.

Ironically, it will play the lens cleaning CD, for the same amount of time, then it acts up too

Well it sounds to me like it's just a faulty unit. Should still be under warranty, right? Send it back to Pioneer.

Eh, it is beyond the warranty period I believe, I will have to check.

Do you think if I add the external CD changer, that the issue should go away if I use it to play cd's?

CD changer should work if an iPod or AUX adaptor works. It's more or less the same thing to the head unit.

Could it be overheating? Are the discs hot when you take them out? 15 minutes isn't that long so I doubt it, but worth a shot. Maybe check airflow in the back?

/guessing

Unfortunately not over heating, the disks can actually come out cold and still not play correctly. My sirius unit works, and I believe the CD changer will loop through there, so I guess I should be good if I go that route.

I am thinking of burning MP3's to a DVD and seeing if it will play that.
