Incorrect Arrow Orientation

Hi,

I have an AVIC-D2 and somewhat regularly, the arrow indicating my direction is not oriented correctly with the street that I'm traveling on. My signal strength seems to be okay, normally, so is there anything else that could cause this issue? The antenna is mounted on my dash, but doesn't have a metal plate underneath and I am going to get one. Could this be causing that much of an orientation issue? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Sure could. I had similar problems before I decided to try the black metal plate it came with. I don't know why, but it seems to make a HUGE difference, and not just for signal strength. Makes me wonder if the compass is in the receiver? .. naw, I doubt it. Anyway, a metal plate under the receiver should fix you right up.

One other issue I've ran into is if I set a route before it has correctly established my location. It takes a LONG time to correct my current location, unless I cancel the route, at which point it corrects almost instantly, then I just re route to the previous destination. FYI.

Thanks for the reply. Can anyone else vouch for the orientation issue without the metal plate underneath; or possibly another cause? The signal strength is usually good, but the arrow is always disoriented with the direction I'm traveling and many times, it jumps to the road parallel to what I'm traveling on and that obviously screws up the directions that it's providing.

Put something metal under the antenna and hook up your VSS wire. Problem solved

Wow, I couldn't have said it myself.

VSS + Metallic plate under GPS = Good times for your Z2

Sounds good. VSS wire is already hooked up though. Hopefully the metal does it!

Thanks again.
