Hi

I have the european version of Z1. The HD1BT.

Is it possible for me to unlock the HDD without deleting tha data, and then transfer music directly to the drive in Windows Xp?

Thanks

Sure. Unlocking doesn't affect data on the drive - only your ability to access it.

No. The Z1/Z2 stores music in a modified and protected ATRAC3 format. It cannot play MP3's off the hard drive.

Efforts are underway to crack the Z1 Atrac3 format, but as of yet, I don't think it's been done. Not to mention, the file-system is a complicated set of folders with an index. Even if you could first convert your files to the proper ATRAC3 format, you'd have to correctly organize them and somehow write the index. I personally don't think it'll ever be a feasible alternative =\
