whats the extent of the bluetooth capabilities? Ive seen a few units like alpine that download your adress book from your phone which i like very much, does this do the same? Also do i need a seperate addon for xm traffic none of the sites seem to clarify that its an addon just that its "extra fees"

Most things are add-ons.

Bluetooth (ND-BT1)

Sirius (SIR-PNR2)

Xm (no traffic, just xm) $12.95 a month(GEX-P910XM)

Xm with NavTraffic (traffic and xm) $16.94 a month(GEX-P10XMT)

NavTraffic (no xm radio, just traffic) $9.95 a month(GEX-P10XMT)

Ipod (no video) (CDIB100II)

6 disc dvd changer (XDV-P6)

usb (CD-UB100)

backup camera (ND-BC1 or ND-BC2)

almost anything with rca jacks

Rear Monitors

I am sure I am missing something. There are other options for each like the bluetooth and sirius from pioneer, but I listed the updated more compatible ones. I have all pioneer except the camera, I went with the VTL-300.

I have the bluetooth, xm with navtraffic, ipod, backup camera, and 6disc dvd changer.

I cant really comment much on the bluetooth since I use an iphone.. and it is not "real" bluetooth, I will try with a different phone soon.

Edit: Updated cost of Xm, thanks to cntrylvr79 if someone wants to post sirius pricing(I paid for year on friends plan so no clue on normal cost and to lazy to look)

thanks guys for the help, its become complicated now im back to D3 vs Z2 lol. its so hard to choose a nav these days. i can probably deal with the dvd based D3 since ill be using the ipod input and the ipod video on it would be good too. whats the difference in calculation time between the d3 and Z2 is it really alot or is it something i can live with given the price different between the 2?

I would say go with the z2 since everything is one unit, has a hardrive, bigger screen, etc..

You can buy a refurbished z2 for under $1,000 and a d3 for under $800(higher estimates then actual cost)

Refurbs usually come with 90 day warranty from pioneer and usually a 14 day with whoever you purchased it with..

I dont think the calculation time is bad at all on the D3. Maybe if you were making a cross country trip it would take a while, but everytime i've used it, it calculates in about 5 seconds, sometimes less. Rerouting is even faster. I would personally go for the D3 because of the price difference, and the bluetooth is newer technology. I've never used the older BT like the Z2 uses, but the BTB200 for the D3 works very well as far as clarity and echo cancellation. From what I understand, the BT adapter for the Z2 doesn't have echo cancellation. I think the D3 has a better ipod interface too, but again, i've never used a Z2...just going by what i've read on here.

yea im having a tough choice the D3 has better ipod both video and audio so i can compensate for the lack of dvd playback with maps. does the D3 come with map updates because my city area is fairly new and if the D3 has an outdated map i would end up in the middle of nowhere...

Kind of car do you have?

What media format (dvd, ipod, cd) do you use most?

The D3 comes with 2007 maps, i believe the same as the Z2. A DVD update should be out around april.

i have an 07 scion tC and i mostly would be using the ipod

Just because the d3 plays video from the ipod with just the connector I would say the d3. I use everything from dvd to ipod to the harddrive.

I do run the composite rca jacks to my headunit for ipod video using the ipod not the headunit. So I still can use it but only by using the ipod controls.

(when I take into consideration the harddrive with 10gb of music built in without an ipod, it made the choice easy for me)

What color are the dash lights on the scion? Don't forget the color of the lights on the D3 can be changed :)

Another factor that ALMOST made me pick the d3, the z2 is blue, my car lights are orange, d3 would have fit in better...

I noticed the foreign version of the z2 has bluetooth built in, with orange lights.... I think its called the avic-hd1bt avic-hd3bt?

my tC has amber lights (which i really hate cuz it makes it look dirty) but i plan on getting it customized to red soon.

im on the same boat as far as the coloring goes, as long as the map database isnt outdated compared to the z2 i can probably manage with the D3. yea i noticed the ONLY youtube demostration on the avic Z and its regional couterparts was that same unit, it was a couple of minutes long but gave alot of info in my opinion THAT is what the Z2 should be especially if u take into acount the video was done in 2006 as a higher end unit the Z3 should have bluetooth build in aswell as gps, and leave the addons for things like the D3.
