New Avic D3 installed, some problems

1. When I hit the Onstar button the stereo mutes, the Onstar light blinks like it is connected, but I never hear anything. If I hit the button to turn it off, the stereo never comes back. It is like it has shut off completely. I do have the GMOS-01 box.

2. Occasionally the stereo turns up the volume on it's own. I have the PAC SWI steering wheel interface, but I have not programmed it yet. I am not really sure if that is related or not.

Those are the two big problems I have. Now a just a "is this normal" question.

When I am playing the IPOD and try to turn the volume down, I get to a certain point where it goes from being at a normal level to nothing at all. The volume level will be at 1 and will still be at what I would consider a normal listening level.

Thanks

1. Weird, maybe the volume dial on the gmos-01 is all the way down? Or it could be bad. THat would be a first for me though.

2. If it's hooked up and not fully programmed, then that could very well be the problem.

Your ipod volume question sounds like normal operation. The volume number is at 1 then you turn it down and no sound right? If so then yes that's normal.

Let me clarify. It seems that at volume level 1 on RADIO is much lower than volume level 1 on IPOD. Does that make sense. Maybe it just seems like it. It is still new to me.

YEa that's normal too.

Set the SLA setting on the D3 (while in ipod mode) up higher. It's in the sound tab in the D3's ipod menu. It will raise the volume of the ipod source relative to the radio source's volume. I have mine set to +3 and the ipod plays at the same volume as the radio.

Thanks Hifi, I will check that.

Cntrylvr79 suggested that maybe the volume was set to low on the GMOS and that sounded like it made sense, but then I got thinking that if I can hear the door chimes, shouldn't I be able to hear Onstar? I can hear my door chimes.

Wait, if the radio sounds quieter than the ipod, you set the ipod source's SLA to a negative number, not a positive one. I misread that post. I though you said the ipod was quieter than the radio, not thew other way around.

Just to update you guys. I have my D3 in and everything is working. I still need to program the steering wheel though. The problem with my OnStar was that Crutchfield had sent me the wrong Metra control box. Because Chevy sold a Silverado Classic and Silverado NBS (New Body Style) there seems to be a bit of confusion. I went to Metra's web site and looked around and found that Crutchfield had sent me the GMOS-01 instead of the GMOS-04. The 04 was for Bose Onstar and the 01 was for strictly Onstar, but my Onstar wouldn't work with it. Any way, door chimes are chiming and OnStar is working. The GMOS-04 is made for navigation system type stereos too. With it you don't have to search for and splice into the VSS or Reverse wire. It connects to it through the factory quick disconnects.
