Is this the new tuner? and will it work with the D3?

I may return my recent purchase of the PNR2 and get this since its half the price.

That's only half what you need. You'll also neeed the pioneer adaptor for it, and it's doubtful that the interface will be any different than the pnr2

You need the CDSB10 as well

Why would they make a new tuner, and make two different pieces for it and it is no better than the old one?

Because Alpine, Kenwood, Panasonic, etc. have already been doing that. That way you only have to buy one universal tuner from DEI for all the lines in the store, and the cables for each brand. Easier than trying to keep many of each brand in stock at all times

Hell if I know. I just put the crap in. I don't decide how what's made and how it works.

Glad I have the PNR2 then. Buying both the units for the D3 would cost about ~$110 vs $100. Plus less stuff to install as well. Old way>New way.
