GMOS specific question about By-Pass

I have read on AVIC411 about the bypass and searched here without luck about this question. I know you ground the parking brake and yellow/black mute wire. When connecting the GMOS-04 box from Metra it says to connect the brown mute wire on the GMOS harness to the yellow/black mute wire. Is this still necessary? Do I need to ground both the brown and yellow/black to make the bypass work or just do like the pictures here show and ground only the yellow/black mute wire along with the green brake wire?

Thanks

i had the same problem for the gmos06

dont connect the mute wire or the brake wire to the interface.

just do as the bypass says as if you didnt need the interface.

just ground the mute and green parking brake wire.

Thanks, my new GMOS-04 should be waiting on me when I get home today.

I'm guessing this will apply to the GMOS-01, too? I just got the D3x from crutch, plus the harness (and XM & BT).

Did either of you have to deal with the steering wheel controlls? I bought the steering wheel harness, too, but haven't a clue as to where the hell it taps into.

2006 Impala, btw.

Yes, I have mine hooked up, but I haven't programmed it yet. Call crutchfield, they will tell you where the wire is for your Impala.

Thanks...forgot about their lifetime tech support. Now, all i have to do is wait for it to be delivered

Does your Impala have the Bose system with the factory amp?

Posted Feb 26, 2008 · 18:45 UTC#8

No, no Bose, no amp. I figured I'd eventually upgrade the speakers and add a sub on my own.

I was just looking over the Chime module instructions and came to this same crossroads...about the interface telling you to do this, but the bypass mod says do that. Glad this site exists, and that i remembered about this thread. Already saved me from banging my head on my desk!

Quick Q's, though...

Does NOT connecting the mute and P-brake wire to the chime/OS module do anything? Are we losing the muting of the D3 when using Onstar (handsfree)???

Also, b/c I don't have an amp, I just cap off the blue/white "amp turn on" wire, right?

And (hopefully) lastly, does connecting the reverse signal and VSS wire from the chime/onstar module to the pioneer harness eliminate the need to find these wires myself and tap into them directly?

The mute wire, from what I understand is for hard wired car phones that no one uses much anymore.

Just cap off the amp wire.

Since you are connecting the VSS and the reverse wire to the GMOS, you don't have to hunt for it. Just connect it to the GMOS.

Well, the HU is installed and works great...but when Onstar kicks in, it shuts down the unit completely until it's over, then the unit turns back on. Gotta figure that out.

Mine does it exactly the same way. I guess it is normal.
