I'm switching my AVIC from one vehicle to another. The old vehicle did not have a factory installed amp, the new vehicle has a factory installed "monsoon" amp.

With the original installation, I used the standard wires from the AVIC to the adapter for radio hookup. I believe these output a stronger signal. Now that the signal will be going through the Monsoon Amp (285 watts, I bellieve), should I use the RCA wires from the AVIC for the speaker wires?

If so, do they make adapters that go from RCA to straight wires for splicing?

A little more information. With the new system, the factory wiring has eight wires from the radio, marked low level audio signal to the amplifier (2 hot and 2 ground for front; 2 hot and 2 ground for rear). The amplifier then processes the signals and powers the four front speakers, the two rear speakers and a sub-woofer.

So, I’m guessing the larger RCA wires from the AVIC are low-level since they are designed to go into an external amp. Will this give better sound? Does it make much difference?

Thanks

I need to know the kind of Car.

VW and GM Monsoon systems WILL accept the radio output as is. Wire it up normally. You volume will be LOUDer than it was before, and you may get a little "hiss" from the Monsoon amp.

They DO make an adaptor (several actually) that will interface.

1- PAC-Audio makes one tht will "turn down" the output of the radio.

Its more commonly uses and a Line Output converter, but it has speaker outputs as well as RCA outputs.

OEM-2 is the part number.

You can also take a cheap pair of RCA's and cut them from each end abotu 10 inches away from the plug.

Strip back the ends, then strip back the inside ends. The inner most wires are your Positive leads and the wire on the outside is the negative.

This way is tricky, and you will break a lot of inner wires, so practice on your extra "middle" piece.

Plug the RCA end into the Zx, wire the other side to the car.

This will most likely result in your radio being too Quiet.

Both of these options are null and Void on Camaro's- Firebirds, TransAm's

you have to bypass the amp in those.

the Amp is between the spare tire, and the back seat. accessable by removing the rear passenger inner trunk side panel, then unpluggin the amp. Its about even with the Antenna between the 1/4 panel and the trunk

Good Luck
