To D3 or not D3

Greetings,

I tried some searching before I posted this but failed to find what I was looking for. Basically I am on the fence if i want to purchase this or not. The $200 rebate looks hot but here are my concerns.

Cons.

1. Finding it online for a good price but then install is $$

2. I have a Pioneer headunit now where I have to scroll to find a song. With the turn wheel it's just painful and I now have a dozen playlists. How bad is this if you have a large (couple dozen gigs) of music?

3. Some other sites complain the nav is slow (with some trick to fix it involving a second antiena) any problems with it?

4. Most likely my biggest concern is a new product coming out. I figure the rebate is to kill inventory for a new product but i am not finding anything on D4's.

Thanks for the help and fill free to post links to other threads if these have been answered before!!

Well I will start answering my own questions in the mean time :) It seems like for this question I am talking about the VSS wire and noticed some mixed opinions on it. Since I hope to keep this for a long time I want to make sure its the best it can be so looking to get the wire hooked up.

I just got off the phone with an installer at CC who knew nothing of this wire which wasn't that surprising. They want

800- Unit

40 - Kit and harness

160 - labor (omg free now now now... )

36 - iPod cable. OUCH

First off, I don't think CC can offer the rebate. Sounds like 800 is AFTER rebate money. If it is before, than it is a steal. (MSRP is 1000). And other prices are in line with other Authorized Retailers (like me).

Second, connect the VSS wire if at all possible. It does make the unit more reliable in the long run. It also makes the nav functions more precise.

Third, because the iPod screen is larger than the unit you have now (I am guessing, anyway) it is not only easier to scroll through artists and playlists, I feel more at ease with the iPod screen on the D3 than my last radio (a DEH-P7800MP).

All in all, I would recomend the unit to anyone looking at it over any in it's price range.

Hope the info helps. Happy Buying!

Hey I jusy swtiched over from ther 7800 as well and I loved it but I love this one as well. But my question to you is do you have a 4 or 5ch amp hooked up to yours with major engine whine?

Try grounding the RCAs. There are many threads on it

joker2-I had a 400w 4-ch amp previously in the car with my old head unit, and I did have engine whine. I had the power cable and the RCA cables for the amp running down the transmission tunnel under the center console. Just before I got the D3,the amp went,so I bought a 1600W 2-ch amp. When I put in the D3 and amp, this time I ran the cables down the door sill instead and used a different grounding point also. It solved the problem, though I'm not sure which aspect of it did it. Just a thought!
