I didnt think the D3 was HD ready. But Crutchfield says it is? Well if it really is there goes another 100 bucks.

Been covered. That unit's been out for a while now, and it's only designed to work fully with HDradio-ready head units, which the D3 is not. More on this subject here:

The AVIC-D3 will work with this unit but it will lack of some features:
