Is the D3 able to play Dolby 5.1 surround or not? On the front off the player it indicates that it can, however, that would mean it has to be able to process Dolby Digital 5.1 in order to deliver 5.1 surround sound. People have said that I would still need a Dolby Digital Processor to do this. Does anyone know for sure?

You'd need and external dolby/5.1 decoder/processor. The D3 only puts out 2 channel (stereo) sound.

Probably because the bose system uses the two channel output from the D3 and upconverts it to surround sound.

good for your stock DVD nav. The D3 doesn't. I dont' see the point here...

So it is a little misleading then when it says Dolby Digital on the unit and can really only play it when connected to a Digital processor. Because after all, any system that plays DVD's can play Dolby Digital 5.1 when connected to a Digital processor and with the right speaker set-up.

Pretty much, yeah.
