I have the factory head unit that has 2 slots, one for the cd and one for the DVD. I want to install a D3 to replace it, but of course don't want to lose the rear monitor. is there a way to intigrate the d3 with the factory screen?

The D3 has RCA audio/video outputs on the back of it. Whatever input type the rear screen is, you would need an adapter so it accepts the RCA cable input(s)... Unless it just has RCA inputs, then you just plug it in.

Thats the obvious answer, but it is a factory screen. I havent taken it apart for myself, but i am told that it is not that simple. It supposedly has I guess that i need to take the head unit out of the dash and see for my self.

Well yeah, there's no way to know unless you pull the stock unit out and see how it's sending the video signal to that screen.

I thought the reason to have a forum like this was to try to find others with experience where you are having problems and try to save some time and money that others have spent.

It is, but I don't see any of those people trying to help you, do you? And anyway, this forum is specialized in the Pioneer AVIC series of nav units, not stock Chevrolet electronics. There's not many (if any at all) people here who are going to know off the top of their heads what kind of connectors that screen has or what you're going to need to hook it up to RCA connectors.

So find the other end of the cable going to the screen and let us know what kind of connectors are on it. That's the only way I can think of that will help me (or us if anyone else decides to chime in) help answer your question.

It can be done. First I would pull down the factory tv unit most of them have an input on the inside. Worst case scenario is to run the line to the exterior aux input that all the factory Chevy overhead TV's have. The last time I dealt with a gm overhead about 3 years ago it had an input on the inside. Hope this helps.

I thought that I may have to do that, but I ended up finding a PAC harness that converts the factory plug to RCA's. It even still keeps the exterior aux in and keeps the i/r headphones in operation. I also will need to add whatever harness is required to swap out the h/u, as it gives the screen it's power.
