Avic D3 install question.

Hey, I just recently purchased a Avic D3, and I was wondering if I could use an alternative to soldering for the install such as crimps?

I bought the wiring harness and I heard some people solder the wiring harness onto the other wires, this probably can be done by using crimps if I'm correct.

However, on the Pac SWI-PS I would need to remove the white wire from pin 7 and put it before the resister (closer to the harness) then the resister then pin 8 wire after the resister...

so my question is can this be done without soldering?

oh and btw if I do in fact need to solder...

Is it really all that hard, I'm scared that I might fry or do something wrong when soldering the wires together... I have never done it before ever...

and also would I need to purchase the resister seperately and where can I get those from?

You can use butt connectors like these, IMO just as good as soldering and a lot faster. If you crimp them good, they'll never come apart under even extreme use. They're only a couple of bucks for like a 20 pack or something. Of course you'll need the crimping tool as well, but you can pick up a cheap one at the hardware store for under $5.

ahh i see,

so using crimps and butt connector is okay?

but what about the steerin wheel control isn't that a soldering job?

i mean steerin wheel control

Don't know, I've never actually done one myself... but if it's just wires connecting to wires, I don't see why you couldn't use them.

I just did the SWC in my Impala with crimp connectors, but I didn't need to use a resistor, nor did I have to use all the wires, so there is definitely less chance of it failing when there is only 3 wires connected total.

I used crimp & butt connectors for all the connections for the HU, XM, BT, and SWC. Made the job MUCH easier...I hate soldering.

ahh i see, so since i need to put a resister inbetween the two wires, would it be better for me to just use electrical tape?

I cannot see the e-tape holding it securely. First try the red butt connectors and use some good pressure when connecting it to the wire...and maybe then use some electrical tape.

NOOOO!!!!!! Electrical tape is for shielding/protecting electrical connections, not for MAKING the connections. Crimpo0ns or solder only.

Those crimp connectors are great! As long as you get a good solid crimp from your grip you are set. I still prefer solder but sometimes the old iron is not practical.

Not to beat a dead horse, but can I use the red butt connectors to connect the resister to the appropriate wire? I've done the rest of the install using connectors, but all the connections were for wires in the harness and not an exposed wire like the resister. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for all the great info! The SWC is the last piece of my D3x install. :D
