I have read that certain members have mounted their navigation anteannas in several areas. Where is the best place to mount it in order to receive the best signal? Are there any locations I should avoid? I have a 2003 Acura TL-S if it helps any. Thanks for your help.
D3 Navigation Install Help
For best reception, several members recommend mounting it to the roof of your car. Me, personally? I would do without the navi than have the antenna stuck to the roof of my car.
Other people (including myself) have mounted the antenna somewhere under the dash and have had no problems. Just find a solid metal surface with as little obstruction above it as possible. You should be fine.
Another choice would be mounting it ON TOP of the dash using the metal sheet provided in the kit.
When I installed my D3 in my Corvette I mounted the antenna under the center speaker grill on top of the dash.
On my F150 there's an area on the dash in the center with non skid pad for setting down cell phones or other items. I mounted the GPS antenna their.
On my wifes Seqiuoa I tried mounting the NAV and XM antenna under the dash but it had poor reception so I mounted it to the bottom corner of the windshield.
Mine is in the corner of the dash as well...works fine. What's the deal with the metal plate? I never bothered to pull out the install instructions to see what it was for.
Thanks for the responses. I don't want to mount it on the roof of my car. I guess my best option is to mount it on the dash. How do you run the wire from under the dash so that the antenna sits on the dash? Is it easiest to just feed it from the top of the dash down?
On some GM pickups, 01 and 02, GM mounted the gps antenna on the windshield, right beside the rear view mirror. Go check ebay and look for some 01 or 02 Silverado's with onstar and you'll see it on the windshield. Thats where I am thinking of mounting mine with some double sided tape.

Yeah, just set the antenna where you want it, then run it down the side of the dash (using supplied guide clips, if you wish) and then beneath the dash to the HU. Same can be done with XM or Sirius antennae, if it applies to you. I've got both NAV and XM antennae on the dash in the same corner, but will eventually run one to the other side of the dash so they don't look so cluttered.
