Replacing ipod/phone cable

I've heard that if I replace the stock ipod cable with an apple version of their AV cable, then I would be able to play video on the Z2.

Is this true? has anyone done this? Does anyone have pictures of what the ipod z2 adapter looks like or how they have their iphone diosplaying video on their Z2?

Its not a Z2 adaptor, its just a cable available from the Apple store that plugs into the bottom of the ipod and outputs to RCA audio and video cables. You then plug in the RCAs to the A/V input hanging off the back of the deck. The cable does not charge the ipod and you will not be able to control the ipod from the deck. Its $50

how does the built in wire supply power to the ipod/phone?

Does the cord that comes with the ipod kit for the z2 not have a dock connector on the other end? Would it be possible to re-wire the Apple cable into the ipod adaptor thus supplying power?

I already said the Apple cable doesn't charge the ipod

The Pioneer adaptor does charge the ipod but does not transfer video and cannot be modified to do so

You can buy one or the other, or both. Up to you

you obviously misunderstand me.

The apple cable has AV cables as well as a USB plug on one end and a dock connector on the other side. Therefore I'm wondering is there anywhere I can plug this USB cable in (thus supplying power to the iphone) or can I splice it into the cable I currently have (the one supplied with the ipod pioneer kit), which can supply power. Essentially I wanna know how the pioneer cable, which supplies power, connects behind the deck - is it plugged in (what type of plug) or is it hard wired in (in that case, could I hard wire the USB cable to this power source?)

I hope this doesn't sound rude, I'm just trying to clarify

The USB part is useless as there is no USB hookup on the deck to charge it. So to repeat myself...you will not be able to charge the ipod through the apple cable, and you will need to do all controls from the ipod.

The pioneer adaptor goes through P-bus which is a Pioneer specific bus system so you have to choose one or the other, not both.

I have done this. I added an USB extension cable from Radio Shack to my IPod wire. I then purchased a Griffin IPod car charger and ran the USB cable to my cigarette lighter. Works great I can play my IPod video and charge my IPod at the same time. Picture looks decent but you cannot control IPod through the Z2. I just got everything installed this week so I have no pictures yet.

Hope this help.
