Well, went the stereo shop yesterday and got an estimate to get the D3 installed. The installer wants 250.00 for the install of the D3 with the bluetooth, ipod, sat radio and then another 80.00 for the Steering wheel control. I find this estimate a little high and would like to know how hard it is to hook up the pac swi-ps unit? I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline. If anybody has pictures that would be awsome also. the Pac-Swi-ps seems to be the only intimidation right now. Thanks guys

Not hard at all, chris - I have the same truck, and just installed the AVIC D3 with Bluetooth, Ipod cable, and PAC SWI-PS interface in mine. Here's a link to a helpful thread on the PAC install: http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/foru ... ight=wheel

Remember that thread is for the SWI-ALP, your SWI-PS is actually easier since it plugs right into the back of the D3 (don't have to mess with infrared like on the ALP). Do a search in the Mobile Electronics forum of the ridgelineownersclub.com site and you'll find threads on installing the AVIC-D3 also. I have the base Ridgeline RT; I even installed the steering wheel audio controls from the RTS on mine. Be sure and use the 5100 ohm resistor that comes with the PAC kit; solder it between the white and black (ground) wires of that kit. Everything works great!

Thanks bashed1. I plan on getting up the nerve and getting my hands dirty next weekend. Hopefully the weather will be good.

Frickin easy as hell IMO. He's ripping you off hardcore.

First, Circuit City will install the D3 for $175 after tax. Maybe another $30 for the steering wheel controls. (Might throw it in depending on the installer)

www.pac-audio.com/swixprogramming

(scroll to bottom and select your car)

red to ign power

black to ground

ONE other wire to your vehicle. (if you tell me the year, make and model I can look it up for you)

About 60 secs to program.

Boom.

Firebirdude,

I have also purchased the Avic-D3x from Crutchfield then went to Circuit City to get an estimate for install with the Ipod, PAC SWI-PS and the GMOS-LAN-01 modules for my 2008 GMC 3500. They told me $265.00 +- $15.00.

I'm doing it myself as soon as my new truck arrives. Any advice?? Or hints on the install and removal of the factory Audio system, wire hook ups etc.?

Scarface, I think you saw my thread about the PAC issues in GM's. If not, check it out. You need to add a capacitor between the signal and ground or this thing flips out on you. I've got eMails from PAC with their advice posted, too.

EDIT: INFO HERE

Firebirdude,

First, insert your keys into the ignition with the driver's door open. Listen for the door chime. Put your ear to the driver's speaker. Is it coming out of there? If not, you may not need any of the special harnesses they are selling you. If so, read on. You already have the GMOS-LAN-01? You have OnStar? If not, the regular GMOS01 should do fine. And actually in most vehicles requiring the GMOS01, you don't NEED it. It just creates an "ignition" wire behind the headunit and retains the door chime when you leave your keys in the ignition. Who cares. Get the ignition from elsewhere and ditch the door chime. Save yourself 100 bones. But on a small percentage of cars, I have heard the the backlighting for the gauge cluster can run through there and will no longer work. I've never seen it, but it's worth a shot.

Any parts included in that $265? Are you sure? Because that sounds a little high. The prices I posted above are spot on. Trust me. Are they doing the bluetooth too? If so, then that might be about right. You see, they don't have any skus for "direct bluetooth install" or "steering wheel interface" or "iPod cable connection". They charge open rates in increments of 15 minutes. So the installer must ballpark what he thinks it will take to do the work. $265 including bluetooth, swi-x, iPod, navigation install, tax is about right.

If you want to attempt it yourself, then side aside a whole day. For a rookie, it may take that long. For the D3X package, it would probably take me roughly 4 hours including PAC programming. But I've done one or two in my time. If you have some crazy dash kit or adapters like I did in my RX8, then it'll take longer. (took me about 6 hours in the RX8) If you have any specific questions, feel free to post em up in this thread or PM me. I don't scan the forums a whole whole lot.

BuffaloSS, Thanks for the input I have the instructions from PAC and it does state that you must add a capacitor.

Firebirdude, thanks for the input. I guess the price is normal then with the accessories I have. I'm going to try the install myself once I read all the instructions that came with the D3 and all the modules. My truck is being built so I don't know yet when it will arrive. If I get stuck I will pm you.

Thanks for your help.
