New here

I'm attempting to install the D3 into a 2006 pontiac vibe. Before i get started so i don't blow anything up I just want to confirm a couple things if anyone knows.

I picked up a wiring harness for the Vibe, From American International GWH-416. It's listed for my vibe.

Now the unfortunate part is it doesn't come with any schematics telling me what wire is for what. However the wires are colour coded exactly the same as the D3's wiring harness.

I'm always under the assumption that too good a thing never exists. But since i can't find the schematics, does anyone know if this colour code matching is on purpose and will work?

I am looking forward to this install, and will provide pictures as i do. I just hope that these colours are done this way on purpose

In my experience, yes, its ok to match the colours...its pretty standard. Ive installed four different decks in my car(pio, sony, and two clarions) and the colours always matched with the harness.

Just dont ground the yellow wire like someone else here just did.

2nd question then. I know the Yellow wire is the power source (12 constant) as I've used it prior for an Ipod connector and it constant provided power to my ipod even with car off.

the D3 came with a cable intended to connect to the battery for this power. Must i use that or is the power source for the factory radio adequate? (would make life that much easier)

matching colours also leaves me a solid orange and solid black connector left on the Car's wiring harness (guessing black is ground)

is it ok to use this ground instead of the the firewall of the car?

and whats the orange?

I have no clue about what wire youre talking about that connects directly to the battery...... The yellow 12v dc will power the unit, and its fine to just hook it up to the vibe harness.

You can ground wherever you like. I like to phisically bolt the ground to the chassis, but tapping to the ground on the harness is fine as well.

Dont quote me on this, but i do believe the orange wire is for illumination.... i dont remember.. Do you not have a orange wire on the Vibe harness??

Regardless, just match all the colours, i dont think you should have anything NOT connected on the power harness.

Thanks twostep.

It has worked pretty flawless (except me blowing a fuse cause i was too lazy to disconnect battery)

took almost no time (except having to run to the store for electrical tape and another mounting kit cause i brok emy first one)

looks great so far. tonights project is wiring the Blutooth receiver and actually putting in the GPS antennae.

i was debating asking how to do the mod so i can use it while driving, But the stickies were pretty self evident!

glad you got it hooked up.....

Ya, the bypass is pretty self-explanitory....not hard at all. Just be careful not to apply too much pressure when removing the mute wire because you might break the pin.

wasn't an issue. The pin came out very easily. was easier to lift the white plastic tabby part

the entire mod litterally took 2 minutes.

I'm just having issues with one thing.

how do i set the friggin time!!!!!

i go into the GPS nav thing and the only thing for time is 1 hour adjustments. this doesn't help much when it's 12:30 and it's showing 12:05.

Sorry dude, i cant help you with the time issue.

My car is parked for the winter and i havent even gone through all of the menus myself. I only installed it to make sure it was working and there were no issues with the screen or navi before the 30 day best buy return policy.

It kills me to not be able to play with my d3....

There was a thread on here just yesterday or the day before about how to set the time. You shouldnt have to look far, just scroll down a bit.

If not, theres always the manual

found it.

The TIME on the D3 updates itself based on the GPS signal. you must plug in the GPS for the proper time to be displayed.

I thought i broke my car this morning.

the screen kept getting dim, than bright, Than dim than bright, Than dim than bright. I couldn't figure it out.

finally dawned on me. it's responding to the headlights. Dims when the headlights are on, and brightens when they're off! And since i have automatic headlights and today is particularly grey day, they kept switching on and off.

I'm finding more and more features of this thing everyday and i'm loving it.

And it looks Damn sexy in my dash
