CD-UB100 Question

Hey everyone. I am putting together a comprehensive D3 package for my 06 Explorer Limited with blue tooth, iPod, steering controls, rear camera and the PIE DVD saver. While I have everything out, I thought I would look at the USB module as well. I have two questions. 1. Is there a limit on the number of IP-BUS devices that can be put on a head unit? 2. Will this only play MP3s or could a USB hard drive be connected to play ripped video files?

Sorry if questions have been asked and answered in the past. My search didn't provide any specific answers.

There is no technical limit to the number of P-bus devices. I think you would run out of stuff they make first.

The USB adaptor does not transfer video, only audio

Not to mention the interface on the USB device is downright terrible... you'd be better off playing video from the ipod you'd have connected instead. In which case you'd have no real need for the USB device in the first place if the ipod's playing both audio and video...

It is terrible, but it works and as designed. Though the interface is weak, I still find I use it more for the daily songs I pull off the web and drop on the thumb-drive I carry with me than I do my 60gb iPod which remains in my glove box, stagnating. Obviously, if you carry your iPod with you, you'd be MUCH better off with the iPod adaptor.

Something to note: You cannot "search" or brows items (albums, artists, etc.) like you can with the HDD library or iPod. Basically, all you can do is play songs in order, and either skip to the next track or next folder. There's no way of knowing what's next unless you remember how you arranged them on the drive. It's for this reason that it would be ENTIRELY unfeasible to use a USB hard drive. The amount of music would be unmanageable.

Thanks for all the advice! I don't really it need it as I have the ipod cable, I was just wondering if I should put it in when I had everything apart to save some hassle down the road.

I am guessing that there is no way other than a DVD to have video play on the screen. Not a big deal for me and I didn't want to spend the extra the the Z's hard drive.

DVD drive, DVD changer, ipod, or either of the two AV inputs using whatever video device you want.
