Just wondering , will the z2 and the ipod control let you play your whole ipod in random mode? Ive heard of the poor lack of search and slow scrolling so I usually play random anyways and will be fine as long as its there?

Yup. You put the repeat mode to ALL and set random.

And yes, searching is SLOW -- it's more like browsing 1 page of 8(?) items every 4 or 5 seconds. What's better is to make playlists (in iTunes) of the things you actually might want to listen to and transfer those over. It's still just as slow, but FAR more effective than scrolling through a list of 1000 artists.
