Just did an install on my D3 on my 2008 Dodge Ram. Didnt bother with the VSS and cause I live in rural area and the GPS is pretty accurate. I would however like to hook up the illumination wire but without spending 100 bucks on the canbus adapter there is no illumination wire in the factory radio harness. My guess is that I could tap into the headlight switch dimmer. I downloaded the bodybuilder files from Dodge but the read like IRS documents, however I did narrow it down ( or i assume I have it narrowed down) to two wires, the panel lamp dimmer signal (orange/black wire) or the headlamp switch dimmer signal (also an orange/black wire). Which one should I use. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, you're much better off with the pac/periphera piece.

Hey Cntry,

I was just at Best Buy picking up a Sirius Tuner for my D3 and inquired as to if they had the PAC interface. The installer there came out to talk to me and told me that all he had was an axxess harness that didnt provide vss and such. He inquired as to what I was wanting to do and I told him that I was looking to hook up the D3 properly with the vss, ill, b/u and such. He almost took offense and told me that I would be crazy to hook up the illumination. When asked why he told me that it was almost a garantee to blow all of the gauges in my truck and that it was infact a Best Buy policy not to hook up any extras that are not needed in the install such as ill and mute wires and such.

Now Im no professional installer but I have been doing shade tree work for the last ten years. I have installed about 50 or 60 somewhat radios/systems and such as well as an alarm or two for myself friends and family. Now I know thats chump change compared to what a professional sees but I figure for a self educated Cajun, that aint too bad. I have hooked up several illumnation wires in installs the latest being in my sisters 03 camry and my previous 06 Ram. I have never had any trouble with this before.

Just curious what you take on this was.

Sorry for the rambling, but thanks in advance.
