AVIC-Z2 bypass

I am writing because, I burned the file and uploaded it to the Z2, and the company then did the 2 wire bypass. And after all that it still doesn't work.

My question is can I try to upload the file even after the bypass is done, or will it mess up everything?

If it will not work then is there anyone in Las Vegas that does this?

Just for a general FYI. The ipod hack that involves holding play and then pluging in the adapter works.

Either the 2-wire was done wrong, the CD update was done wrong, or you haven't pressed the reset button.

The order of the update and wiring doesn't matter.

Thanks,

I will try again tomorrow. I am using Sonic to burn the file. Does it make a difference what I use. When I put the cd in I hit the map button, after that does it start the down load automatically? I did not see anything after that. I then hit the rest and nothing except that it told me that the udate has already been done.

I turned car on with parking break on, put in disk, hit map button, and then I see this

"INSERTED UPDATE DISC ALREADY UPDATED"

so I hit the rest button, and the unit goes off and comes back on. Then I see

"INSERTED UPDATE DISC ALREADY UPDATED"

Again I used Sonic to burn the disc, does that matter, or did the installer do the bypass wrong?

If so does anyone work in the LAS VEGAS area?

Any help would be wonderful.

The installer did the bypass wrong. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing, or print out the instructions posted here and take it to someone who knows what they are doing. It literally takes 30 seconds once the deck is removed from the vehicle

I am assuming that the bypass worked, because while I am driving I can press the parking break just enough to get the parking break light to come on, and then everything works.

I am not an installer, but I looks like the parking break wire is not getting a good contact. If I am reading correct, the other wire will lock it out while moving, I don't seem to have that problem. Just when the parking break is not ingauged.

The installer is a friend of a friend that owns an audio shop. He told me after the fact that he doesn't do Pioneer products very often.

He said that the second wire harnes did not have four open slots.

So, does anyone know if the Z2 has the four open slots or not?

First, if you put your parking brake on and it works, that means he didn't do the bypass correctly at all because the parking brake wire should be grounded, not connected to the actual parking brake.

There are detailed instructions in the 'Stickies' at the top of the page with photos of which wire needs to be moved into which hole. There are indeed four open holes and they are clearly viewable in the photos

BTW, don't let friends do shitty work to your car. If you're not confident he can do it, take it to someone who knows what they are doing

The friend does window tinting for a living. He does alot of work for this established custom audio shop here in Las Vegas.

It was not unitll after they installed the unit that they told him and me that they do not do Pioneer.

I found a guy today (after about 10 phone calls, no one wants to go in after someone else on my Hummer) that does Pioneer in his shop. He told me the same thing you said about the bypass. He said it would take about 15 min to take out, bypass, and put back in.

A couple of places I called said yes untill I told them it was a Hummer. Then three of them said they had no intrest in doing it, even after I said I was looking for a two way alarm.

Anyone have any idea why?

1. Because doing the bypass is a liability in case you run over a family in a crosswalk while watching a movie. You could blame it on them for doing it for you

2. Hummers are a pain to work on. They probably figured it wasn't worth their time to pull the deck out and do the bypass for whatever they could charge you

Just my guesses though

What features does the z3 update disc have that the current z2 dont? Is the z3 update disc basically a maps update or is there more to it?

I believe there should be new vocabulary for voice commands although I've not seen this myself (yet) as well as updated maps etc
